Carnival Victory 11-2 / 11-9 Review

Aplmac - it does not even look crowded at the St Thomas sail away

- you need to share your secret for where the crowds are NOT!

I love finding little spots that are away from the crowds on a cruise.

Upper upper decks are a good start.

Few ppl take the time to get right up high

on what I call the Funnel Deck

i.e. up here

- or the deck where this shot was taken from

VictoryView-170.jpg

Over on the left, you'll notice there's one more flight of steps up

(to waterslide-entry level)

where few people bother to climb the stairs (arthritis?)

Up there is a fab place to take pictures from, since you can't get much higher.

Even the Funnel Deck isn't quite that high, I think(not certain).

And as mentioned earlier

getting back early when everyone's still doing the hot sweaty thing ashore

is a good time to have the ship almost to yourself.

And also...maybe I simply wasn't on a really full cruise??

You got me searching thru all my files

lookin for crowded shots.

Bear in mind that a super-wide-angle lens like many of these shots are taken with

make things look a bit more spacious than they really are

-makes people in the distance look very small and far away

so some of what you're seeing(not seeing) might be that?

Despite all that

I found a crowded pool shot for you - LIDO Deck -amidships

FunShip-1091.jpg

Besides...after a few of these..

Gear-1088.jpg

who gives a shirt anyway!

There's top decks

and then there's Top Decks.

To illustrate my point about getting high on a ship (sorry,Security.. no offence intended)

let's have a look at this shot I posted earlier.

DaBigTV-228.jpg

At the very bottom of the shot is LIDO - where the pool is located.

Come up one deck, where you can see the sea over on the left..

- that's what most people consider Top Deck, where you can get up there

and feel the breeze in your face as you look over the rail.

To the right of the big TV Screen

you'll see just two ppl standing on a deck

that's even higher than what we all think of as 'Top Deck'

-that's the deck with the blue Jogging Track.. i.e. this one

BetweenDex-376.jpg

and above them is my 'Funnel Deck'

with no-one in sight, you may notice

Investigate those smaller upper decks and you'll

1. escape crowds

2. have a great vantage point for shooting down on the scene below!

Y'all going to Brimstone Hill Fortress, right?

This extraordinary historical site is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site

and anyone with military history interests should definitely include this in their day.

I think we paid about US$6 per person for admittance

and you can pay a bit more for one of those informative walk-around-with handsets that tell you everything.

There's also a short slide-show./presentation at the beginning

before you make your way up to the citadel at the very top to see ..

Even if you go just for the view..

StEustatius-201.jpg

(it's about 800-900 ft. above sea-level)..

there's plenty to see from up there!

I don't know when I have enjoyed anything quite as much,

with the exception of my last cruise, as your pictures

as they posted through the day.

I just paid my balance in full

and am in full countdown mode 'till March! ===> And Carnival thanks you for your contribution!

Most of the pictures you've been seeing

are already posted at the Cruisecritic Photo Gallery at URL..

http://pictures.cruisecritic.com/showgallery.php?cat=518

which is the Carnival Cruises section, but there are others

so go poke around and look for pics by aplmac.

Starting here..

http://pictures.cruisecritic.com/member.php?uid=272460&protype=1

is another way in to the pics I've posted on the CC Photo Gallery

The super wide lens may have to wait. ===> There's an even-better TOKINA

(or is it Tamron?)due out soon..handles much the same super-wide tasks

I keep wondering if I may have caught you in any of my pics.

Maybe you'll show up somewhere one day...
