OBC, straighten me out please

I want to gift a few people for christmas by giving them an obc for a booked January cruise.

 

I just spoke with NCL and they said that, obc cannot be used in Casino or Gratuities. I thought I had read that the recipient could use for anything.

 

Is the above information correct? If so, I may just give them cash and let them decided what they want to spend it on.

The info that you were given is incorrect. OBC that is purchased as a Bon Voyage Gift (i.e., Onboard Credit Certificates) can be used against any onboard expense. Perhaps the NCL rep misunderstood you and thought you were referring to OBC that is given out by the cruise line as part of a sales promo, in which case the OBC cannot be used in the casino or to cover the gratuities.

I made it very clear I wanted to do this as part of Christmas present and she put me on hold and asked her supervisor. So not sure why I got that answer.

 

Having never done this before with NCL, can it be done online or must I speak to someone.

johnql is correct. It can not be done on-line. However, you can access the form on-line and then it would have to be faxed in....

Bustaty, can't say why you were misinformed. Perhaps the rep relayed the question incorrectly to the supervisor and/or the supervisor misunderstood.

Not sure. I just know that it works for ordering the Bon Voyage gifts.

If they are purchased ahead of time they can be used for anything. The ones that can not be are those that are given by the ship as a promotion..
