Yukon Posted November 28, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 28, 2008 Using ANY reservation service is a bad idea IMO. Their advice is commission-driven, and even if they have been here, they don't know or won't tell you about the many good options that either cost little or is run by a company that doesn't pay commissions. Particularly once you've found a place like CruiseCritic, it's very easy to find the BEST tours/excursions/activities and book directly with the operator. Budget Queen Posted November 29, 2008 #3 Share Posted November 29, 2008 I also, never recommend any booking agents for Alaska tours. It is simple to book direct, with the advantages of getting your information first hand, confirmed reservations that are accurate, specific information/directions, establishing a relationship with the tour operator etc.
knuts1 Posted November 29, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted November 29, 2008 Thanks!! I was looking at at Heli - Hike & White Pass Railway tour and they listed it about $100.00 less per person from the ships price for the same tour. I guess I will keep looking. Yukon Posted November 29, 2008 #5 Share Posted November 29, 2008 The operator for that is Packer Expeditions - http://www.packerexpeditions.com/packer/Welcome.html When you contact the operators (I don't see prices on the Web site), NEVER say that you're on a ship - most have contracts that prohibit them from selling to ship passengers.
