Fuel Charge Reimbursed as Onboard Credit

Dont get me wrong..I am very happy about getting the surcharge back. However, it is now ONLY in the form of a shipboard credit whereas they originally stated it could be a credit and the remaining balance would be refunded after the trip. I called and was told it would be forfeited if not used!

Does anyone have the full writeup...I only have this snippet:

A shipboard credit is the most efficient way we can return the fuel supplement to our guests. If guests do not use all of the shipboard credit, they can receive the balance after the cruise.

They always said it would be refunded as OBC to my knowledge, so nothing has changed. They cut off the 25 trading days was 5 days before your cruise, and if you qualified you would get the credit as OBC. no change.

Never saw so many finding things to complain about when they are told they are getting back money. It's amazing!!!

Is there a place we can go in our documents online to see that we have the OBC in our account? Or do we just trust that it will be there when we go aboard?

I'm supposed to get an OBC from my TA as well, so I'm curious to see if that has been credited as well.

I am happy...but those who have ample OBC to more than cover tips..this is just an added OBC. That being said...there are ways to get your OBC back in cash anyways.

Oh well....I did include the snippet from the original press release.

For those of you that missed it only by a few days it is very unfortunate and does not seem right.

Anyways...how many drinks can one get with 4 surcharge refunds lol

Were you planning on eliminating the service charge on this cruise? Because that'll take care of your onboard credit, so no refund needed.

Why is everyone so upset about getting a REFUND? I don't GET IT....

Yeah, we missed it by 4 lousy days. I wonder if we'll get a partial credit.

We got $15 on our cruise last week. I was happy to get that. Wish they could have decided earlier about the full refund, but I'm not complaining. I knew what I was getting myself into when I booked and paid for the fuel surcharge. Never thought fuel prices would go so low. Like someone said, it should go toward your gratuities. No worries.

Login to "my cruise" then click on "my documents" and the "view". Scroll down to payment info and you should see it.

from CCL to our t/a:

Cruises departing from December 17, 2008 through and including February 4, 2009 will be refunded via a shipboard credit. Bookings for cruises departing on or after February 5, 2009 will be adjusted to remove the fuel supplement. We expect to complete the required booking adjustments within three weeks.

Was that per person or per cabin? I'm happy to be going on my cruise and the fuel supplement was just part of the expense so I don't argue that at all. It just stinks to be soooo close!

Hey how is it that those of us in the middle get HOSED out of our fuel surcharge we paid. I missed the damn thing by .53 cents. Then we get HOSED again when Carnival says we are suspending surcharges after Dec. 17th sailings. I'm seriously not thrilled with how they've handled themselves.

Nope, not sure. I meant to ask at the purser's desk but forgot. I did read here on CC about people getting $15 in the last couple of weeks and some being told that is what it was for. Mere speculation on my part.

Nope again. It was one $15 credit for "Less refundable credits applied" per my statement. I don't know what else it could have been...no missed ports or major complaints about anything...

I hope that those of you who are upset about not getting a credit on your upcoming cruise are going to be able to relax enough to enjoy the cruise. I am one of the lucky ones that I am getting it - and I might feel a bit disappointed if my cruise missed it by a couple of days.

but I am going on a cruise... during a time when I could be so broke that I can't pay for groceries. Yes - having the extra cash would be nice - but I'd be looking forward to it whether I had the shipboard credit coming to me or not.

Exactly!! I love coming on this board and keeping up with things, but da*n, the drama just gets more stupid by the minute. It proves my favorite saying; "you can hang some people with a NEW rope, and they would still bit*h!"

OBC, refund check, decreased final payment, it's all the same - a bonus! That money was spent when I agreed to the bottom line. It's just like going into the casino, if you can't afford to lose it, don't bet it!

Yep - they complained about the charge in the first place (rightfully so for those who were already booked), then complained that the refund process was too complicated when it was rescinded, and now can't believe how many are complaining about getting it refunded!

I do feel bad for those of you who missed it by a few days but I think the poster earlier summed it up - you are able to cruise when many in this country are without jobs or struggling to pay the bills so while I'm sure I'd be disappointed as well - remember that you are blessed.
