shore excur.- what to do w/ stuff?

My kids (DS 6yo & DD 3 yo) & I are taking our first cruise on Carnival's Fantasy in Feb. I figure I'll need to take dry clothes, sunscreen, cash, and all the regular "mommy gear" whenever we get off the ship- probably in a backpack. Here's my question: what do you do with your stuff on shore excursions, particularly swimming ones (we're doing the dolphin encounter in Cozumel)? I may use a waterproof fanny pack for things like our passports & cruise cards, but what do I do with the rest?

Any other tips you can provide a first time family cruiser will be most appreciated! Many thanks!!!

I take as little "stuff" as possible. ;)

I use a waterproof digital so that my camera is always on my wrist. The rest stays in a backpack and in sight.

I never leave the ship with my passports (I know I know, to some this is the ultimate evil). I take my photo ID (DL) and my sea pass cards. That's it.

I have a waterproof money/credit card holder that I wear around my neck. In a cheap tote bag goes all the stuff we need - but nothing I would care about if it got taken while we were in the water (and nothing that looks enticing). Never had a problem yet.

Best,

Mia

Everyone in your "excursion group" will be in the water with you---who's going to steal your stuff? Don't bring anything of value---a couple bucks--no one wants your sunscreen or t-shirt or hat.....

You can usually leave your stuff in whatever transportation vehicle brought you. No one will bother it.

Thanks so much for helping this newbie out! Is there anything that you wish you had taken off the ship but didn't?

A hairbrush (I just forgot it -- thankfully I had a hat!)! Otherwise, I've only had stuff I wish I'd left ON the ship because I didn't need it. :)
