momonmeds Posted December 6, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 6, 2008 Hi everyone! What is the best place for us to buy fish? Salmon, halibut, etc.. We haven't planned any fishing excursions, but is it worth it and where can we buy fish to have it shipped to our home? Thanks!! Beth
melodyina Posted December 6, 2008 #2 Share Posted December 6, 2008 There are two places that are widely known in Anchorage. 10th & M Seafood http://www.10thandmseafoods.com/ And New Sagaya's grocery store. http://www.newsagaya.com/ Both places offer shipping on-line all year around, and also you can visit both their stores and select what you wish to ship. I've used them both.

bottom-dragger Posted December 7, 2008 #5 Share Posted December 7, 2008 fresh, fresh frozen, or smoked? processed/smoked in southeast would be jerry's meats in juneau. http://www.jerrysmeats.com/ do they hang out at the docks hawking their wares to tourists? no, they don't have to. every time i'm in their retail store trying to decide what to buy, there's a continual stream of alaskans, no ponchos or running suits. don't buy the cheapest fish and then complain that alaskan fish tastes like crap. it's because you bought.......................crap. As usual...you have the best suggestions. Jerry's Meats won't know what hit them come next cruise season. We'll all be sure to tell them "bottom-dragger" sent us whether we shop in the store or online. That should bring a smile to their faces.

Carol808 Posted December 9, 2008 #8 Share Posted December 9, 2008 My husband went fishing in Ketchican and he had a lot of fun, lots of fish too! We were told by our booking people, Discovery Excursions, that Ketchican was best best place for it. They were right from everyone we talked to. People said that Juneau was good to but there are so many other things to do there that Ketch. would be a better choice. We have been to Alaska a lot and at different times of year. At the end of the season everyone is selling smoked salmon really cheap, but otherwise everyone was pretty much the same. In Junaeu we found a place called Taku Smokeries were they make and sell all knds of smoked salmon, I would check them out. Also the resteraunt next to them is really good!!!!!!!
