ILOVEMEXICO Posted December 10, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 10, 2008 We've sailed on the Golden and will be sailing on the Grand in Feb - are there many differences between the two ships?
spongerob Posted December 10, 2008 #2 Share Posted December 10, 2008 Very few, and hardly enough to notice. The public restrooms are a bit easier to find on the Golden. The Grand has MUTS now, but I'm not sure if the Golden has it yet or not. The central stairs are opened up for passenger use on the Golden, which is handy. mii Posted December 10, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 10, 2008 As Spongerob said they are similar. The golden is going into drydock next April and then MUTS and the International Cafe will be put in. Other than that they are sister ships. Marilyn

bhopal21 Posted December 10, 2008 #5 Share Posted December 10, 2008 Other then decor and Movies under the stars, nothing. :) I agree. We have been on both several times and I can't tell the difference other than MUTS and decor. Mike:)
GloriaF Posted December 10, 2008 #6 Share Posted December 10, 2008 I agree. We have been on both several times and I can't tell the difference other than MUTS and decor. Mike:) And as Spongerob said -- the central stair case is not available to passengers on the Grand. A design flaw that was corrected with the Golden. Grannycb Posted December 10, 2008 #7 Share Posted December 10, 2008 And as Spongerob said -- the central stair case is not available to passengers on the Grand. A design flaw that was corrected with the Golden. That missing staircase drove us a little nuts. We'd been on the Golden for about four weeks and used the staircase several times a day. We just couldn't get used to it not being available on the Grand. Other than that, we love both ships.
ILOVEMEXICO Posted December 12, 2008 Author #8 Share Posted December 12, 2008 Thanks - the central staircase - is that the beautiful one where the shops are on the Golden? Thanks again for everyone's replies.

Totally agree and Hi GrannyCB:D We choose our Cabin based on mid-ship so we can use the stairs to get everywhere, but were irritated that the mid-section stairs were 'crew-only', the only time we were allowed to use them was for the safety drill. This meant walking to either end of the ship to get to a place directly above or below us - or take the lift of course but we like the exercise... Other than that the ship is the same as the Golden, but with MUTS. Don't let this put you off, just be aware of it beforehand, since we weren't. You'll have a great cruise:cool:

The Atruim stairs are on the Grand. They are talking about the midship staircase.
RickEk Posted December 13, 2008 #11 Share Posted December 13, 2008 The Grand was the first ship in her class (and the largest cruise ship in the world when she was launched... it's amazing how far we've come in just 10 years! :p). They learned alot from her and those changes were incorporated into the Golden and Star.
caribill Posted December 13, 2008 #12 Share Posted December 13, 2008 For the inside cabins, at least, the arrangment is slightly different and they are not as spacious on the Grand as they are on the Golden. Just a little different.
ILOVEMEXICO Posted December 13, 2008 Author #13 Share Posted December 13, 2008 Thanks - we loved the Golden and the Atrium staircase and since it isnt that one, we aren't too concerned about the central staircase - don't think we used it previously - we were on Dolphin (forward port side) on the Golden and stairs were quite close to our room. With all the good food, we didn't take the elevators, plus we just enjoyed walking the stairs and from front to aft of the boat as well. Still have about 2-1/2 months to go and with the recent snowfalls, wishing it was sooner, but then it would be over sooner as well. Thanks again for everyone's comments.........
