kruznkanuk Posted December 11, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 11, 2008 We love gardens, especially when the one back home is covered with snow, so wanted to see the Floral Forest in Barbados. If you are into plants and gardens, this is a great site. Uncrowded and not the subject of any ship excursion as far as I know, it is a lovely rain forest with lots of marked identified trees, and a couple different paths (one main one is wheelchair accessible). Admission is $10 and the taxi driver convinced us we would like a bit of a tour of the island, so we had a couple hours driving around plus an hour and a bit at the garden, for $100 for the vehicle. There were 3 of us but he had a nice SUV where 5 would have been comfortable. He dropped us downtown, where we enjoyed a roti at the Chefette (a local chain of fast food that you really should try in Barbados!) and shopped around for a while, saw the parliament buildings and the bridge, and walked back to the ship stopping at the Arts and Crafts place halfway back. It is not a far walk, and the walkway is in a lovely park along the harbour, so if you are fit at all don't hesitate to walk one way or the other. Aplmac Posted December 11, 2008 #2 Share Posted December 11, 2008 Flower Forest is the name....yes a nice place, up high in the middle of the island, with good views. and great botanical specimens! If you're the horticultural type, you gotta get to Flower Forest -and to Andromeda Gardens as well. Both locations in the scenic part of the island -and if you don't go anywhere else just getting to and from them, and the Port, you'll end up seeing the best parts of the island. Harrisons Caves is about 5 mins. away from Flower Forest, so..... Don't forget that camera.
kruznkanuk Posted December 15, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted December 15, 2008 Sorry, I know it is the Flower Forest. Thanks for the correction. We tried to go to a 'Park Florale" in Martinique and I confused the two names.
