Pistol Packin Mama Posted December 14, 2008 #26 Share Posted December 14, 2008 Glad this thread has started. We are going on Feb. 8th and are looing forward to the cruise. We have cabin #1388, anyone had it or have pix? Does this ship have the Promanade cabins or is it just like the Vision?
texascruzer Posted December 14, 2008 #27 Share Posted December 14, 2008 I just checked out the galveston webcam to see the Voyager and that darn Conquest is in front of her!:( I guess I will wait until 5:00 pm and watch her sail away.
TEXASMUNK Posted December 14, 2008 #28 Share Posted December 14, 2008 Hull will be cleaned and re-painted Engines will be completely inspected, etc. More than likely, new carpeting throughout. You may see some layout adjustments in areas like Windjammer. Theatre will be refurb'd. Cabins will be updated. They will have a check list of things to do, plus anything "hidden" Some dry docks are small fixes, others are major, only RCI knows what they think VOS needs....the rest is guesswork on the part of CC members like me. Rare BillOh Posted December 14, 2008 #30 Share Posted December 14, 2008 If you are NOT referring to the ones in the solarium, but the one just inside the workout area, its ready for you. No charge for any pool. Stay on CC as much as possible and check out all youtube Voyager pics to be able to last until June.:D And join your sailings Meet N Mingle group/thread and time will fly by. My hubby took this photo onboard Voyager in April...any guesses where its located and what it is???? HA HA HA! I would say it is the men's bathrom deck 11 near the windjammer. Did they ever fix those automatic sliding doors? Its the only negative thing I remember from my first cruise back in '06. Yes, it was such a great time, this was the worst thing about it, and yes, its not real bad.

I would also guess upgraded TVs in the cabins to flat panel screens (less space and consume less power), clean entire bottom hull, azipod bearings maintenance (must remove props to reach bearings), clean/replace windows as needed - it depends on how much time and money they decide to invest. Given the lifespan of Voyager, I would assume they would perform necessary upgrades to keep her competitive but with the economy they might limit their costs to only essential maintenance. We sail on her in W.Med in Sept.09, so we'll have the "fix-up's" in place. Any thoughts about adding another alternative dining venue?

rayj130 Posted December 16, 2008 #41 Share Posted December 16, 2008 Overall not a bad trip but must say it was very "slow". Cruise director and activity staff were out and about but they didnt really plan anything. The avg age had to be close to 75 (dubbed "ship of the living dead" by day 4) and the entertainment and activites were geared to accomodate. Aside from dodging "hateful" septuagenarians in walker's and hovarounds there were plenty of deck chairs and loungers on deck. Space inside (windjammer and royal cafe etc.) was harder to come by, lots of bridge and canasta being played all day long taking up all of the tables (literally 7 to 7, after that most of them had a glass of warm milk and went to bed). The ship itself is holding up very nicely. Clean and well maintained. Rockwall, inline and most of the activites were easily accessed due to the age of the cruisers. Limited ice rink availablity for some reason but there were 4 or 5 ice shows. The crew were fantastic as usual. The Voyager is captained by the yougest captian in the history of the company, Captain Patrick is 32 and they think he is the youngest of all the major cruise lines. The one disappointment has to be the food. It was mediocre at best and the selection in Windjammer was extremely repetitive. The maitre d apologized and said that they will be changing to an Amercan menu while in Galveston but our sailing had a European menu (not sure why that was supposed to make the food bad but that is what he said). Menu highlight was the Lobster and shrimp platter around day 6. There was a second lobster meal on a port night but I was told it wasnt very good (skipped it because of great dinner in port). No nightlife to speak of, casino was dead by 11, the vault never even got started. Overall a good cruise (if you get a good price) and you want to relax. Dont book if you want a more upbeat/party type of atmosphere.

Well I was on this cruise and while there were wheelchairs and passengers requiring aids to walk they were not the majority on board. I think the cruise staff did a good job of organizing activities but the weather did not cooperate and so pool activities were somwhat curtailed, and as said the rock climbing and basketball were not active places. I did not feel the septuagenarians were at all hateful. I do agree that the food was mediocre but all in all it was a great cruise. It is well known that transatlantic cruises do attract an older crowd perhaps the OP should have considered that.
TEXASMUNK Posted December 17, 2008 #44 Share Posted December 17, 2008 Easy! I do believe we all know who those folks are.... Many..not all..but many seniors seem to think that becuase they have made it that long that they have "rights" everyone does not have. The poster did not say ALL. Next time you get run over by a scooter, or have your grandson pushed aside in the Windjammer by a senior, then you might acknowledge that some folks get meaner as they get older! Lighten up! Eileen2 Posted December 17, 2008 #45 Share Posted December 17, 2008 I apologise for implying that the op meant all passengers in wheelchairs were a problem I meant to say that while there were some mobility impaired passengers they were in the minority. Perhaps he meant they were hateful if they acted rude and impatient. I observed wheelchair passengers being plowed aside when entering elevators, no consideration was given to their impairment at all and I also noted able bodied passengers taking up the seats set aside for wheelchair users in the Theatre. Give and take on both sides is my motto. In the main most people are not looking for an argument:)

Pistol Packin Mama Posted January 11, 2009 #47 Share Posted January 11, 2009 On a lighter note, does anyone know which pier the Voyager currently pulls into in Cozumel? Is it near downtown, or the one about 3 miles away? Haven't been there in a few years, and don't know the name of the piers, only to make sure you come back to the right one. Thanks.
