New York City Cruise terminal

Which airport would be more assesible to the NYC terminal. I imagine I can get a better price to Laguardia and Newark. How far are they from the terminal and do both have nearby hotels and which would be the most affordable. Probably gonna cruise in early Oct.

I suggest going with the airline that has the best itineray for you and forget about which airport it goes into.

They're all relatively close.

The covenience of the flight is waay more important.

Also if you're coming in a day before the cruise (or more) don't stay at a hotel near the airport. You'll be in the middle of nowhere. Stay in Manhattan. There are hotel bargains to be found on the net.

All three airports, LaGuardia, Kennedy, and Newark, have good transportation available to and from midtown Manhattan. There may be some small differences in travel time (e.g., LaGuardia is closer and does take less time than Kennedy), but those differences are relatively minor and as another poster opined, chose by itinerary and not airport.

On the other hand, Islip (sometimes called MacArthur), White Plains, and Stewart are more difficult for travel to and from midtown Manhattan.

Islip is oftentimes brought up in this forum since it is the closest airport to New York City served by Southwest Airlines. It is a very long and expensive taxi ride from there to Manhattan. Sometimes, if the itinerary or fare is very good, travelers will use the Long Island Rail Road between Pennsylvania Station (in Manhattan) and Ronkonkoma. The trip takes about 1-1/4 hours one-way, and trains run hourly. There is both a scheduled service and taxi service between the airport and the Ronkonkoma station ($5 per person for either).

Many attempts have been made to increase use of Stewart airport, though it remains quite underutilized. There is a very long taxi ride to and from this airport. There is a Leprechaun Lines bus that operates daily (hourly) between the airport and the Beacon Metro-North railroad station. The bus ride is about half an hour, and then the train ride into Grand Central Terminal is about 1-1/2 hours.

Last, and probably least likely to be used by cruisers, is White Plains airport. It is not quite as far away as the other remote airports, but taxis nonetheless require a long and expensive ride. There is a Bee Line bus that operates daily (hourly) betweent the airport and the White Plains Metro-North railroad station. The bus ride is about hald an hour, and then the train ride into Grand Central Terminal is another half an hour.
