Woman missing on the Pearl

Just a thought - when the husband and Mom? went to bed at whatever time - were the rings on the bureau and the chair at the balcony railing??

The story doesn;t make sense to me. Just my opinion.

What does not make sense is none of the national TV stories even mention the mom. Are we sure she was onboard? If she was why does no one question why the mom did not report her missing as well as the husband.

The 'pull of the sea' is more common than people realise. Some think it's a form of vertigo that they are getting...but on the whole, when you look down over the rail at the sea, it is hypnotic and yes, it does feel like it's getting closer to you, the longer that you stand and stare at it.

I have too experienced this on ships and had to pull

myself away from the water. This happens very easily.

It such a smooth, relaxing and entrancing feeling.

Goldryder, so very thoughtfully and touching your post

is to read. Thank you

My condolences to her friends and family.

I have to say I completely do not believe that posting the other guy made on some other blog. On our last cruise, which was actually on the Pearl, late one night the cabin next to ours was having a yelling match that lasted for a few minutes. Those of you who have read my postings know how nosey I am so you know I tried to hear what was going on. With my head pressed against the wall you could not make out one single word that was being said. All you could hear was that two people were yelling at the top of their lungs. The only specific words I heard was Doug telling me to mind my own business.. LOL.

TWELVEOHONE hit the nail on the head with their posting in all we know right now are the facts stated by the FBI.

lmao Terry, i would have been doing the same thing, and my DH would have been yelling at me.....I simply cant help it,im nosey and need to know what is going on...hehehe

Now it was loud thumping noises.....such as the bed hitting the wall....

I dont think i would listen then...eewwweee....lol....:D

prayers to the family of this sad story

Im gonna toss an sick thought into the mix...what if the mom and her husband were having a secret affair. Could be why they didnt notice she was gone...OR....never mind.

A passenger was on Fox news this morning

According to her the one mistake NCL did was not to make an announcement. Because of this rumors were speading all over the ship with a lot of confusion. If they had made an announcement of a missing women someone might have come forward with infiormation that might have helped.

When asked if the ship changed course to look for the women, she did not know nor did any other passenger although no one saw any lifboats being dropped.

I have been on ships going around in circles but as a passenger I would never know all I see is water. Unless I am on the bridge I cannot determine direction and/or a course change, even then I woudl not know.

Pretty much her bottom line was that rumors of every type and nature were spereading like wildfire

I just got of the phone with a friend who was on this sailing... they knew the couple from the newlywed game. They were acting very brash, wild and so were known to most on board. Didn't help they played that newlywed tape over and over in the cabins...

She said that people saw her in her bathrobe outside her cabin drunk and fighting with hubby....

Later after the incident the mom and husband were seen around the ship and were acting non chalent... for example, people saw the mom on a lounge chair reading a book... the husband was let out of his room but was instructed not to talk to any passengers but didn't seem distraught.... (see the todayshow.com interview)

It really is a mystery as to whether she committed suicide or was killed... now it's up to the FBI to come to that conclusion

The ship had little information to give to the public. They have liability to consider.

How would it have helped at all? What information could other passengers have?

Announcement (british accent): Attention, we are missing a female passenger. Anyone with details please call security. As a reminder, Bingo will begin promptly at 11:00)

Joe Passenger: Now that I think of it, a few hours ago I was on my balcony and I saw a women fall into the ocean. I will call security now..

After talking to my friend who was on the sailing...it was worse when folks were in their cabins watching CNN and found out that way... *****... She was flabbergasted that this was taking place and she found out this way.

I personally think a letter from the captain explaining the situation and saying it is being handled per NCL and the law rules and regulations. This way it could have really circumvented all the rumours and not finding out on CNN......etc etc....

IMHO... and from someone who was there.........

Norwegian Cruise Line representatives said they were preparing a new statement on the incident.

This is the second time Norwegian Cruise Line has been faced with a missing passenger this year. Mindy Jordan, 46, of New Jersey, went missing on a Mother’s Day cruise to Bermuda in May.

According to several passengers interviewed on the Today show after disembarking in Miami, Seitz (above) and her husband, who they knew as "Ray," participated in an on-board mystery game show called "The Not So Newlywed Game."

Suzanne Nestor said Seitz was "very excitable" and "outgoing," and had spoken of plans to take a New Year's trip to Bridgeport, Ct., and New York City.

Another cruise passenger, Carter Scurry, told Today that Seitz's husband appeared strangely calm after his wife disappeared. The cruise ship did not make a formal announcement.

"It was eerie to me," Scurry said. "He was nonchalant, no remorse."

I saw the interview with this person and I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt in that he just chose the wrong word and is not already rushing to judgement. Shock can also seem like being nonchalant.

Remorse is an emotional expression of personal regret felt by a person after he or she has committed an act which they deem to be shameful, hurtful, or violent. Remorse is closely allied to guilt and self-directed resentment.

Once again no mention of the mother being onboard.

Most interesting quote

But the FBI has ruled the husband out as a suspect, reported WFTV-Ch. 9 in Orlando, but agents are looking into the possibility of foul play or suicide.

A quote from a passenger aboard the same cruise.

Jim Nestor, a retired state trooper, said the couple was “definitely different,” also describing them as “loud” and “wild.” He also said he saw Raymond Seitz aboard later, holding a bag of quarters and explaining that he was head to the ship’s casino “to see if he could change his luck.”

When reading the article from the link I noticed this statement:

" close friend of the family said Seitz and her husband lived with her mother in a home on Knotty Pine Drive (see map) . Seitz's mother rushed to Miami as soon as she was notified",

so, it appears the other woman on the ship was NOT her mother...perhaps it was an older sister?

In this instance, I personally do not see the benefit of NCL making an announcement to the other Pax onboard. If they had stopped the ship and launched boats and were going in obvious circles, had search helicopters all around, etc, then yes, I think it would have been purdent to tell the Pax what was going on. But from what it seems like the ship made no course changes, launched no boats themselves, etc, since they were so far away from where they thought she had been missing. Now I know this may seem cold and harsh, but I don't mean it that way..if it was not obvious that there was something going on, why should NCL possibly ruin other peoples vacations by making announcements that really would not aid in finding this missing woman they know went overboard? You never know what the other Pax on that cruise are taking a vacation from. Maybe they are taking a vacation because they just went through the death of a loved one, or maybe they are taking a vacation because they need a break from taking care of a terminally ill person.

Again, I know it may sound like I'm being harsh or petty or whatever, but it is how I feel that the other Pax should be taken into consideration. I have complete sympathy for the lady and her family and by all means I think NCL should do every thing possible to locate her. If making an announcement to the general pax to help locate the woman could help find her if she had just fallen overboard, then by all means, but under the circumstances, I think NCL and the ship and it's captian did the right thing.

The analogy is to a large hotel, does security warn other guests of a possible crime or missing person in the hotel? Think not. Think NCL handled it in the best way they could. I hope that these people who are in the "they say" crowd have some discretion as rumors take on a life of their own.

Terry I agree with you. I have been reading ALL the posts on this terrible tragedy and I see nothing gained by telling the other passengers. Nothing could be done. I have a feeling that NCL "knew" of the exact time that she went overboard (reviewed footage and made call not to go look) hence no life boats were sent out.

What I found werid was a comment made by one of the passangers that said that they saw the husband with a bag of quarters to go play the slots. I find that odd since the slots don't accept quarters...at least not on the Star. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I believe if there would have been an anouncement you would have gotten a bunch of people saying that they had seen or heard something. I do not believe the Pearl would be able to handle eveyone that would come out of the woodwork and still try to piece together what really happened.

I will leave it up to law enforcement to do their job.

The Seitzs were vacationing with Jennifer's mother

Seitz's mother rushed to Miami as soon as she was notified.

A close friend of the family said Seitz and her husband lived with her mother

They said Jennifer's husband is not a suspect at this time.

Our thoughts are for the family, but I hope we don't experience any more of these overboard incidents - or balconies will become like highway pedestrian overpasses - enclosed with wire.

I can see them turning balconies into bay windows. After all it seems several have sued the cruiseline and WON when this has happened.

Yeah. That, and entomb the Lido deck.

Not gonna happen.

Now, who is it that sued and won?
