Same Ports, Same Intinerary

Hey fello CCers.

Am desperately trying to pick my next cruises. One i am looking at is the same itinerary as one i travelled in August in the opposite direction.

 

Has anyone done this before (travelled to the same ports on the same intinerary)????????:)

I haven't done the same cruise yet , but would if it fell in the time frame that I wanted to cruise. The main thing to remember is, if you are happy with doubling up ... do it.:D:rolleyes:

Have you picked this cruise because of the islands you visit or are you just happy being on the ship because you just love cruising? I think if you like the ports the cruise is going to go for it (don't worry if you have been to them before). We have another 10 night cruise booked for July next year and it's almost identical to my previous 2 cruises except for Ouvea which I have never been to & am really excited about! I tried to pick a cruise that didn't visit Noumea but they are rare :rolleyes:. My next cruise has 5 ports for 10 days whereas the last one only had 4 ports for 10 days so I ranked the extra island as a bonus :D. I also love Mystery Island so I tend to pick cruises that visit this island if possible. Good luck & let us know what you decide.

I am doing the same cruise that I did 2 years ago for a few reasons.

 

1. They have added a few more ports.

2. It's an Extra day (any excuse for more time at sea).

3. 2 years ago they stopped going to Suva for a while because of the Coup that happened there so not only did we miss Suva but also missed Yasawa-I-Rara.

4. We get to see the Isle of Pines, we went past it last time and it looked beautiful from what we could see as well as Mystery Island.

 

 

So we chose the same cruise to again.

Yes.....and I quite enjoy it.

At least you know what the port or anchorage is like and you know your way around .There are usually many other places to see that you did not have time for on the last visit,and you will also know what not to waste your time on by going to visit.

Rose, Ouvea is simply paradise from the moment you see it from the ship. i wish i was back there now laying down on the soft white sand.

 

Then again any excuse for a cruise is a good excuse!:)

The cruise we are doing next Oct is almost identical to the one we did in Apr '06. In '06 we went to Luganville, Pentecost, Wala, Vila & Lifou. Next year we go to Luganville, Champagne Bay, Wala, Vila & Lifou. I'm dying to get back to Champagne Bay (was there in '86) but for us, the itinerary is not a major consideration. Yes, it's nice to go to different places but it just isn't a priority for us.

I have seen photos of Ouvea that others have posted on this board and I have to agree with you it really looks like Paradise! At the moment Mystery Island is my favourite but I can see Ouvea becoming no.1 after the cruise if it really does look like that! I want to try and get a great photo and enlarge onto a canvas so fingers crossed we have great weather so I get to go there ;).

 

Have you made a decision yet?

Hi VicGuy,

Our next cruise includes new ports as well as some we visited in Oct 06. I like the familiarity and ease of the revisited ports, plus the freshness of seeing somehting new....Rabaul, Guadalcanal, Isle of Pines and Ouvea. I think the latter two are similar to the breathtaking Champagne Bay and I can't wait to be back there.

We did our first cruise at Christmas on the Diamond Princess Auckland to Sydney....and yesterday I rang my TA and booked the same cruise for next January, except we are going the other way round....Sydney to Auckland.

 

For us the Diamond Princess was such a great experience than in one way it doesn't matter where she is going but the itinerary is great and we know all the things to do this time that we didn't get around to doing last time.

The ship can become a destination in itself.

It is a bit of a problem for P&O. There is a distinct lack of variety in their

itineraries. Mystery Island is great as is Ouvea but you can only visit the same place so many times.

P&O have added a few cruises to Fiji etc but they are longer by necessity and therefore dearer and harder to fit into a fortnight holiday. Maybe they should look at doing the Qld coastal cruises more often from Sydney. Currently these cruises are quite rare.

We loved our cruises but my wife and kids are all firm in saying no more cruises to New Caledonia and Vanuatu. We'd love to do a NZ summer cruise but they are ony operated by Princess and tend to be a bit expensive compared with P&O Australia.

I'm hoping that the new P&O ship Pacific Pearl might do some summer NZ cruises. It would be fantastic if she did them out of Melbourne :D:D:D.

When I looked at prices for NYE this year I found that the Princess to NZ were cheaper than the Pacific Dawn to South Pacific cruises, by about $400-$500 per person in an inside twin. Maybe I misread the pricing :confused:

I think there are a few reasons. If the cruise is Sydney-Auckland (or vice versa) the passengers have to pay for a flight and a night's accommodation. All adds to the cost. In addition, I think some of us are wary of booking on a ship that operates on US dollars (Diamond Princess and Volendam) because everything on board becomes very expensive. :):)

Ahhh silly me Evon :o. I didnt take flights or extra accommodation into consideration when I was checking pricing as it is just a given that we have to fork out the cost for them from West Oz to get anywhere.

Yes we are taking the exact cruise as we took 2 years ago except that was on the pacific sun and we're going on the pacific dawn. we're visiting noumea, mystery island and vila. we're even going the same month.

the ship has always been the destination for us, we don't care if she just cruises about in circles, we will be happy...the big Princess ships are fantastic..adult fantasy land.....we have repeated the Asia itinerary 3 times so far...next Feb will make it 4.

 

Our onboard expenditure is mainly drinks, as we are not into bingo or casinos, and we mainly spend our evenings dancing, woo hoo...:):)

Whilst we love the life on the ship just cruising around, it does get a bit monotonous visiting the same islands cruise after cruise. Because of our position in the world there isn't a lot of choice for the shorter cruises, either NZ, Islands or East Coast.

 

For some variation, in March last year we did a 14 day cruise out of Singapore on Costa Allegra. It was really different, visiting 8 ports (5 countries) in 14 days. Felt like Kevin Rudd! We had a great time and the ship, crew etc were terrific. There is also shorter cruises.

 

If anything, it was a bit busy as there were only a few free days cruising it seemed like you were getting on and off every day but there was a lot to see. (Sanya, China. Hong Kong, Saigon, Manilla etc.

 

If you shop around there are cheap flights to Singapore (eg.,Etihad) and there is plenty of reasonably priced hotels too. We liked Singapore and Hong Kong so much we are returning later this year to see all the things we missed.

 

Have a look at the Costa Cruise Line site. On the down side they price everthing in Euros, so it is similar to RCL using the US$. A bit expensive for drinks etc.
