trock Posted December 27, 2008 #27 Share Posted December 27, 2008 WHAT IN THE WORLD WOULD THIS BOARD BE WITHOUT: A. A LITTLE OCCASIONAL WHINING OR COMPLAINING B. REHASHING THE SAME "OLD" TOPICS C. EVEN THE PERIODIC ATTACK ON OTHERS  Sure there is a lot of "fluff" and non-productive goings on here. Some of that is what makes things a little FUN sometimes!! You have the option of NOT reading such threads - or posting in them. Would all of you prefer a stoic forum where everyone posts relevant (CRUISE RELATED) questions (that have never been asked before - because ALL use the search feature)? That sounds quite useful, albeit somewhat B O R I N G !!!! Tom Amen.. besides... how would newbies learn how to antagonize other posters.. ;):)
Wolfie48 Posted December 29, 2008 #28 Share Posted December 29, 2008 The "rules" are not rules anymore. We know the dress code is gone. Smuggling is an art form. Sneaking friends and grandma's into the past guest party for a free drink and a canape is getting to be fun. Hiding during the muster drill is cool. Showing up 30-45 minutes for dinner late is quite accepted nowadays. Saving seats at the pool and shows? No problem. IS THERE NO END???? Is any rule sacred? Oh I forgot. It's "your" vacation and you can do what you want. 2 rules that I know of that are hard and fast rules. 1. You can't get on board without a ticket. 2. You can't get off the ship if you owe money. :D

You can't get off the ship if you owe money. :D It might be "fun" - if you TRULY did not have ANYTHING else to do - to see just how far they would go with rule "#2" :D OK, OK... so my idea of fun is a little weird !! TortieGal Posted December 30, 2008 #30 Share Posted December 30, 2008 I guess my question is aren't we all adults? Can't we read the "rules" and be able to follow them on our own without Carnival having to do the policing? IMO, it's society in general. People are more self absorbed than ever and basically, just don't care.
crsnfun Posted December 30, 2008 #31 Share Posted December 30, 2008 Apparently they do enforce the rule of not bringing any monkeys onto the ship...:D Ok---This is FRICKIN HILARIOUS!!
LindaJSteele Posted December 30, 2008 #32 Share Posted December 30, 2008 I think it's funny that this message is on a Carnival board. It could be on other boards as well. We were on an RCCL ship earlier in the month, and all of these "rules" were not enforced on that ship, either. I agree - people think "It's my vacation, and I'll do what I want." I heard that said several times by adults as I was in the "adults only" pool trying to avoid all the children that were in it!

Tom Oh No!!! NOT sick!! I like it :D Maybe we can try this in feb on the Freedom.... the larger the group the harder it might be to enforce! I HATE that they want me off the ship when my cruise is over! As far as any other rules..... Yes, i have always seen "chair hogs"...see them everywhere I have traveled not just on a cruise. But I have had no problem just moving stuff off of chairs after asking people around if anyone has been there. Smoking.....I have seen this enforced. I am a smoker and personally I adhere to the rules. I am stringant about them actually (but I do not smoke in my own home or car). If I score a deckchair on the non-smoking side I will walk somewhere else to have a smoke. And in my experience both on land and sea smoking in non-smoking areas has been stopped. Kids in adult pools....sometimes yes and sometimes no. During very "high" children times of year (Spring break etc) this seems to go by the wayside a little more but in early Jan, much easier to enforce. I have always seen the guard at the disco checking id's.

zeppekitty Posted December 30, 2008 #35 Share Posted December 30, 2008 AMEN!!! What is it with some people? Your cruise is what you make it. zeppekitty Posted December 30, 2008 #36 Share Posted December 30, 2008 Oh, would you people just stop with your whining? If it's so horrible, then take your vacation dollar and DO SOMETHING ELSE! Like stay home and enforce all your own rules! Or go to a resort and convince all the other guests that the rules must be followed. Stop complaining to people on a freaking message board who CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT ANYTHING! Complain to Carnival. That is the ONLY way that ANY changes can be implemented! And just how is it that you think these changes came about? Because people suggested on those comment cards that the dress code be relaxed. If enough people complain to the people in charge, THEN you have a chance of something being done. Until then, find something more useful to do with your time. Maybe you could volunteer somewhere that needs a Rules Enforcer. Whoops, meant to quote message
zqvol Posted December 30, 2008 #37 Share Posted December 30, 2008 Notes and comments included The "rules" are not rules anymore. We know the dress code is gone. So the dress code has changed. The dress code was not before and is not now a rule. It is simply a suggestion that people are free to follow or not as they see fit. Yes there have always been a few forbiddens in the suggestions and I have observed those enforced on numerous occasions. Smuggling is an art form. Clearly this activity is encourage by cruise critic. If it were not why do the hosts allow the numerous smuggling threads to remain? IMO if you are so cheap that you have to take alcohol on the ship with you, either you are too cheap to cruise or are an alcoholic. Sneaking friends and grandma's into the past guest party for a free drink and a canape is getting to be fun. What can you say, some people are jsut cheap and classless. Hiding during the muster drill is cool. You have to really work at this one, since they take attendance and don't end the drill until everyone is accounted for. Showing up 30-45 minutes for dinner late is quite accepted nowadays. Shame on Carnival for serving them. But why is showing up late for dinner an unenforced rule? I never thought that dinner time was a rule. Saving seats at the pool and shows? No problem. In my eight cruises I have never seen either of these to be real issue. IS THERE NO END???? Is any rule sacred? Can you please point out a rule or regulation, other than a suggestion that you say is not enforced? Oh I forgot. It's "your" vacation and you can do what you want. Some rules that I see regularly enforced include: No children with diapers in any pool No children in the adult swimming pools No children allowed at the slots or gaming tables in the casino No candles No irons No drinks in the pool Some rules that I do not see enforced: People smoke anywhere and everywhere We could all go on and on, but the problem has nothing to do with carnival and everything to do with the decline of morals in society as a whole. GottaLuvCruising Posted December 30, 2008 #38 Share Posted December 30, 2008 Since we are complaining about rules being ignored, please include parents letting their little darlings wander unsupervised and splashing around in the "adult only" hot tubs. Honest to goodness, what is wrong with these people? Hot tubs are not safe for small children and they certainly don't belong in there. If parents are with them and they behave, enjoying the hot tub for a few minutes, I'll say nothing. But if they are raising the devil unsupervised, I'll enlist the aid of security and expect them to do something.

BUT, guess what, they were almost always with their parents! The pool security went 5 times in an hour to tell the PARENTS that this was Adults Only. I agree with this poster. Why would anyone even think about bringing their 1 or 2-year old toddler into a HOT TUB? That is just plain stupid!
Ephraim Posted December 30, 2008 #40 Share Posted December 30, 2008 I suppose we could look at the other side of the coin.... If people were taught to be courteous and respectful of others, we wouldn't need a corporation to enforce the rules for us, people would just automatically do it. It's a sign more of the decline of manners than in the need for a corporation to enforce rules.

redlef Posted December 30, 2008 #42 Share Posted December 30, 2008 I think this calls for a little trial and error, lets just find out which ones they still enforce! Next time we all go on cruises lets all pick a rule and test it. Everybody pick one: 4) Sneak into the bridge and switch all the labels around on all the knobs and buttons. Also re-label some as "self destruct", "missile launch" and "ramming speed", preferably big red ones. Darth - I searched through the carnival website and my edocs and couldn't find any rule prohibiting this activity. We have been allowed to relabel the instruments on NCL, RCI and the Queen Mary. They actually have a hand made sign on the bridge of the Queen Victoria saying "No Labelmakers permitted whilst under steam." Rumor has it that the original propulsion problems on QV were due to re-labeling of the pod controls by a Graphic Designers conference who were in attendance for the first sailing. I believe that Carnival is planning a "P-touch supplement" for cruisers who bring their own labeling equipment. Luckily, the smaller P-touch models can be smuggled in your luggage, but it's a good idea to remove the batteries because otherwise the unit has a similar x-ray signature as prohibited electronic device. Can't we read the "rules" and be able to follow them on our own without Carnival having to do the policing? IMO, it's society in general. People are more self absorbed than ever and basically, just don't care. I love to cruise.....and do it frequently. I've watched over the years as more and more of the "me" generation has come aboard with the "it's MY vacation and I'll do as I please" attitude. They ignore most of the rules the rest of us acknowledge.... I've learned to simply avoid those places where they like to hang out....the pool, the lounges where they drink themselves silly and become a problem to those around them. They let their little darlings run rampant, take diapered babies into the pools and hot tubs - and ignore any sort of decorum at all in the dining rooms. Fortunately, they are still a minority. There are things I won't ignore, however. Screaming and running children who love to play in the hallways, the stairways, the elevators. I have no problem telling them to knock it off and can stare down the most obdurate kid. I once stopped an "ice cream" fight in the elevator lobby...by "kids" who were old enough to know better. Shoplifters onboard.....I've turned in quite a few...and not quietly. I simply notify the clerks in a fairly loud voice that "these people are shoplifting over here"......works like a charm. But, basically, as long as they aren't "in my face" I leave them alone. They find their own crowd of like-minded boobs and, like an oil slick, tend to hang together. :D:D

As an alcoholic, i take umbrage to your well-meant, but misinformed comment. I find it very inconvenient to have to go to a bar every time I need a drink (which could be 4 or 5 times per hour when I'm awake, slightly less when sleeping). Additionally, when inebriated, I have problems speaking, repairing watches and filleting fish, so smuggling alcohol is not so much an economy issue as it is a health issue. :)
