tahoemc Posted January 29, 2009 #1977 Share Posted January 29, 2009 The webcam still showing Mariner in the harbor - the itinerary I have shows them leaving at 5pm - is that local time??? Maybe because they were late debarking today??? Looks like the weather improved from earlier today - although the weather link on the webcam site displays a cool 48 degrees with a 20 mph breeze. Spellbinder Posted January 29, 2009 #1978 Share Posted January 29, 2009 Dave, safe travels, and say hi to Cindy for me. :) Thanks. I will certainly say hello for you Carol. Wonder if she has had an MD on the cruise? ;):D:D
Rare xpcdoojk Posted January 29, 2009 #1979 Share Posted January 29, 2009 I'd be bummed too. It seems strange that on a cruise where so many people (passengers, crew and staff) are together for so long, that the staff seems less cooperative and willing to accommodate people that they have been sailing with for nearly a month and will be onboard with for so many more days. I wonder if some of the personnel onboard were less than thrilled to get this assignment and it is showing in their work performance? Bill and Rick, sometimes in Argentina and Chile they can be a bit of a pain with the local port authority. We were suppossed to get off the HAL Rotterdam in Valpo at 8am, they didn't let people off til almost 10:30, which meant that instead of going to vineyards and lunch before taking our English friends to the airport, we skipped straight to airport since it was almost noon before we got off the ship. Ushuaia is a lovely spot though. We just looked at the lovely snow covered mountains there and bought my wife a fur coat.:D jc
dirtgirl Posted January 29, 2009 #1980 Share Posted January 29, 2009 Thanks. I will certainly say hello for you Carol. Wonder if she has had an MD on the cruise? ;):D:D I can't find a pub that has the ingredients up here! So on the Mariner, you can bet I will find a bar that does.;)

sbalax Posted January 30, 2009 #1985 Share Posted January 30, 2009 We will join the Mariner on February 3 and have gotten mixed information on the Costa Rica Yellow Fever shot requirement. What are they telling you on the ship? The Costa Rica consulate said yes but the CDC said it was not necessary because we are not going to the jungle areas of Peru. RCL (land based) won't give a definitive answer. Help!!! We are doing the Radiance B2B from Buenos Aires to San Diego in April. For what it's worth, I had an appointment with the Travel Medicine/infectious Disease specialist at my clinic today. She said there was no reason for me to get the Yellow Fever inoculation. She gave me a very official looking "exemption" paper but also said that in most cases just waving your yellow CDC booklet should be enough. She did caution, though, that if we decided to go to any of the areas where yellow fever is present (Iguassu Falls, for example) I should get the shot before we leave. I'll be interested to see what the folks on Mariner have to say. Frank in warm SBA:cool:

CAC104 Posted January 30, 2009 #1987 Share Posted January 30, 2009 Rick...have a safe trip and enjoy the 3rd leg with Bobbie! That's such a shame. It reminds me of the way most of the cruiselines treat independent passengers in St. Petersburg, trying to convince them that the Russian authorities won't let them clear immigration early unless they're on a ship's excursion, which is a lie. I realize that RCI has to wring every last nickel out of us to pay for Blunder of the Seas (DH's entry in the naming contest, LOL), but at some point they risk alienating those on whose wallets they built their empire. Seems like they're getting there fast, or may have already arrived. I am afraid I am clueless on this ....what Blunder happened. Why do you think this is causing trouble? TheMiz Posted January 30, 2009 #1988 Share Posted January 30, 2009 Rick I am all packed and they are one floor down and one more until they are out the door. RoofingPrincess Posted January 30, 2009 #1989 Share Posted January 30, 2009 I am afraid I am clueless on this ....what Blunder happened. Why do you think this is causing trouble? Blunder of the Seas was critterchick's DH's suggestion/nickname for the ship that was eventually named OASIS of the Seas..... not everyone (myself included) thinks that bigger is better!
