Transporation from HK airport to Kowloon

We are staying at the Salisbury YMCA in Hong Kong. Does anyone know the approximate cost of a taxi from the airport to Kowloon? The hotel states that it has a shuttle bus from the airport, but there is an unstated charge. Would a cab be more efficient and no more costly for two? Appreciate any information you might have.

The saliabury Y is on the Kowloon side and not HK side, just off Nathan Road - very convenient for shopping, etc. A taxi from the airport would be in the region of US$25 to $30. You just pay in HK$ according to the meter, tips is not really necessary. The trip would be about 35 minutes, depending on traffic.

One additional possibility:

take the Airport Express train to Kawloon and then hop on the free K3 Shuttle bus. The Salisbury is not a scheduled stop, but the driver will be happy to let you off there if you ask (the route passes in front of the hotel).

The Salisbury is an excellent value. Enjoy hour stay.

We were in Hong Kong in October and we stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel which is in Salisbury Road. Our taxi fare to and from the airport with 2 suitcases plus the tolls etc. came to $380HK both times. Even though on the airport website it states that the taxis will only cost $280HK, it always adds up to a lot more than what you expect.

When converted into U.S. dollars on todays rates it is $49US.

We stayed at the Salisbury YMCA in October - great choice :)

We used the 'Cityflyer' bus from the airport (route A21 - get off at stop 14, Middle Road/Nathan Road, which is just round the corner from the hotel) Cost is HK$ 33 per adult one way (not sure how much return, we only used one way) http://www.nwstbus.com.hk/routes/routeinfo.aspx?intLangID=1&searchtype=1&daytime=3&route=A21&routetype=D&company=5 gives you the route details (scroll down for 'from airport' section) The buses have racks for the luggage. From memory it took close to an hour to get there but it's a very interesting ride. Advantage over the Airport Express train is that you do not have to change from train to bus.

When you exit the baggage claim at the airport, go past the HK Tourist Association desk and right outside that area is an area to purchase shuttle tickets.....I think one was the desk A16 or B16 but most will say "shuttles to hotel" or something to that effect...it is about $110HK for the shuttle vans to take you to the Kowloon hotels such as the Salisbury YMCA or those in that area. Might be a bit easier if you have a lot of luggage. It has always been more convenient for me to take the shuttles.....same for return from hotel to airport....your hotel desk can arrange for your shuttle date and time for pick up and you can purchase the ticket (same return price) at your hotel and charge it to your room if you like.....or you can take the bus back as well.....HK is so fun and easy to get around and always a very safe feeling....one of my favorite places in the world....ENJOY....you will LOVE it!!!
