kellanrevere Posted November 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted November 11, 2004 Do the locals eat them? I don't know... but there just seems to be something wrong with this... sort of like eating the dolphins. To each his own, but ........... Hypo Posted November 13, 2004 #2 Share Posted November 13, 2004 A lot of so-called scallops are made from sharks and rays.
racegrrl Posted November 13, 2004 #3 Share Posted November 13, 2004 If you ever see "Skate Wing" or just "Skate" on a menu, that is stingray. Basically, the only part you eat from a stingray is the wings. I have never tried it, but some of the restaurants I service sell it like crazy when they put it on special. After our upcoming Grand Cayman excursion to swim with the Stingrays, I doubt I will ever try it. Too much of an animal lover, especially after I get to meet a few. ;)
dot73 Posted November 18, 2004 #4 Share Posted November 18, 2004 I won't eat any animal/fish that I have held in my hands and petted. No Bambi or Stingrays for me!

davispigeon Posted December 2, 2004 #6 Share Posted December 2, 2004 Skate is served fried in England quite frequently and I've seen them whole...they don't LOOK like stingrays. Just flat fish. Hmm. Maybe different in other countries. It was very yummy. :) I do agree though, I don't want to eat Flipper, Bambi or the Stingrays I will be petting in GC. cnhluigi Posted December 20, 2004 #7 Share Posted December 20, 2004 I agree no stingrays for me. They eat parrotfish in some places too, which also seems wrong after snorkeling with them they are so beautiful!
Melissa at Mohair Meadows Posted December 28, 2004 #8 Share Posted December 28, 2004 Years ago I had a stingwray appetiser at a restaurant in Indianapolis. It was very good. I also see lobsters when I scuba dive and have no problem eating them. :)
Jane110 Posted January 2, 2005 #9 Share Posted January 2, 2005 Stingray's have the same intelligence as a dog or cat, which is why many of us (including me) have problems eating them. It's too much like eating a pet.
Hypo Posted January 16, 2005 #10 Share Posted January 16, 2005 Many cultures think dogs and cats are good to eat too!! To each their own. BTW haggis is a national dish in Scotland, but I wouldn't want to eat it. Mark
