Taste of Barbados by bus

As expected, we loved Barbados, a tropical paradise, which was our favourite island on our cruise.

In the port terminal, we bought beautiful Barbados cricket stamps from the post office and got our change in Barbados money. We walked through Bridgetown to the far bus terminal and caught the 10 am local bus to Bathsheba (20 klm). Then we caught a bus to Speighstown and a return bus to Bridgetown (bus terminal closest to the port). The bus costs $1.50 Barbados per sector. The scenery was spectacular. What an adventure. We had a birdseye view of the local community as we travelled on narrow roads through small villages. Whilst the young driver drove so fast, you had to hold on, he patiently waited until the elderly and mothers with babies were seated before continuing on his way. We observed many examples of good manners and consideration during our travels by public transport.

Bathsheba beach has spectacular scenery, with foaming surf and rough Atlantic seas. Some people were swimming close to the beach, but we just enjoyed paddling as we walked along the beach. As a lot of tour busses/taxis stopped here briefly as a photo opportunity, I wondered if the occupants realised just what they missed.

There were a few touts at Bathsheba waiting for tour busses, but they were friendly and didn't bother us.

Enjoyed glorious coastal views on the return bus before we turned inland through rural views, with cows and goats, towards the other side of the island. Holetown was a mass of construction, with a mix of old and new. We loved the small cottages, in particular.

Of course, we didn't have time to do all we'd have liked to do, but felt we got a taste of Barbados in the limited time available in port.
