How much will we spend onboard the QV

I know that the answer to this depends on so many variables. But we are a middle of the road couple. We like a couple of drinks on an evening before and with dinner. We will only be occasional users of the spa. My vision of this, our first cruise, is of spending a lot of time watching the world go buy from our balcony with a paperback in hand. What might we expect to spend onboard on a 33 day cruise, Singapore to Southampton?

A couple of drinks for two people for 33 days would be over $1000 including tip. Add to that shore excursions, other on board purchases, the suggested gratuity, etc. I would guestimate $3000 - $4000 for both of you and that would assume no major really expensive on board shop purchases.

I travel solo so only have to pay for drinks for one, however I think you can assume you will spend about $8-$12 p.p per drink this incl the 15% added to your bill. I can say that one night I thought I would try the champagne bar for a change , and my one glass cost me $20. I have not tried that since.

Cheapest wine (I am not a purist) costs appros $40 per bottle upwards. Tea in the Golden Lion or such costs about $1.50 each (you do not pay for any food )

Spa or hair salon is more expensive than on shore, so I never do that, it is great to have a massage but not at $150 per

Being a senior and travelling solo I do not do shore excusions - you always have to walk or spend time in the shopping areas. but any shore excusion is likely to cost you from $70-125 p.p depending on where you go, a helicopter ride will be about $300 p.

Hope this helps, you will be able to see prices once you are on board, but it is very mucha personal thing. I have not mentioned the casino, and I do have to say that I have heard of unwise passengers who found that their casino spending went into $5,000-$6000 .

Personally I always go to front desk and check my account about every 4 days, first to see that there are no errors, and to enable me to realise if I need to "control" myself or if I can "slurge"

On Cunard the gratuity charge is added day by day, you can opt out but it is a chore to find the dollars at the end of the voyage.

Have a wonderful first trip. I am starting mine by flying to New York tomorrow, boarding QV Saturday

I have not been on the Queen Victoria but have had the great pleasure of travelling on the QE2 and the QM2 so with the heritage you will have a great time.

I think the drink prices quoted are a little steep if i recall a pint of beer was

4-5$ shorts a bit more 5-6$. Reasonable bottles of wine were 25- 35 $ plus 15 %.

33 days is quite a trip (lucky you) and can be pricey onboard so like most people you are thinking about costs..

Your (friends) can send bottles( wine, champagne for sailaway.. pre dinner drinks) to your room, also we have taken our choice of spirit onboard without a problem. Looking at previous posts this is also not a problem at ports you will visit..so you can cut your costs by having a pre dinner or late night drink in your room (can you tell we are British).

I thought the spa was expensive but the spa ticket giving you access to the spa facilities was good value (the more days the better value), you will get special (cheaper) offers everyday with your daily programme.

Do a lot of research (which is half the fun) on your ports and go independent if you can.

If you can in Singapore go to the night safari at the zoo which is great , also try to go to Raffles hotel , eat monkey nuts throw them on the floor (tradition) try to stay a while great fun.

Use the search engine on this site as a lot of questions have been asked in different ways and you will be surprised at the wealth of information on this excellent site...well done to all participants.

Have an amazing voyage........

Good luck......

Fred & Sian
