Globaliser Posted April 21, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 21, 2004 Meyer Werft shipyard's press release announcing delivery:-
quote:
Delivery of Cruise Ship “Jewel of the Seas†Fleet Expansion of Royal Caribbean International Papenburg, 22.04.2004 - The latest cruise vessel from the Meyer Werft Shipyard of Papenburg, Germany - the 90,090 GT “Jewel of the Seas†- was delivered to Royal Caribbean International (RCI) on Thursday 22 April, 2004. “Jewel of the Seas†is the fourth luxury cruise vessel of the Radiance-class built for RCI by Meyer Werft. This new-building will further strengthen Royal Caribbean’s leading position in the global cruise industry. The Radiance-class vessels have a very slim, yacht like design with extensive use of glass. The ship’s interior offers a variety of special features and unprecedented comfort. More than 80% of the cabins are outside cabins. 90% of the outside cabins have private balconies. The state-of-the-art stage technology and interactive communications systems provide entertainment and safety of the latest technical standards as well as an environmentally beneficial operation. The ship design was optimized using computer calculations and model tests. The slim lines of the vessel with its 15 decks as well as the novel propulsion drive and the innovative gas/steam turbine system provide excellent manoeuvring and sea-keeping characteristics resulting in extremely low sound and vibration levels. After delivery the “Jewel of the Seas†will sail from the Dutch harbour Eemshaven to Hamburg to be presented to European media and travel agents as well as to undertake first short cruises. In May, the ship will start her regular cruises from England to Scandinavia. The christening ceremony will take place in Southampton on 07 May 2004. [continues with technical data]

German version here. Interestingly, that has a reference to Meyer Werft's next two cruise ships, missing from the English text. Their eagerness to get the release out is great. I just hope nothing holds up the delivery later today!
