oakrunfarm Posted January 7, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2009 Hello. Just on the off chance that someone may have been, or a resident knows, I noticed that there is a polo match at Holders on the day our cruise is in port - Jan 22. We've got horses - though not polo ponies :) - and I thought it might be neat to stop by the match for a chukka or two. It's a full match, so it might be a crowd, and I also want to make sure we won't be totally out of place in our cruisewear - although I make sure no one is wearing a fanny pack, sneakers, a visor and a "I'm With Stupid" t-shirt... Any information at all would be great. Thanks!
Aplmac Posted January 7, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 7, 2009 Holder's polo field is about 1 mile inland from Paynes Bay, if you know where that is, along the West Coast. Go North along the West Coast from the Port, about 3? miles - and then inland a bit..and you're there..so it's not terribly far at all. about 15 mins. by car,I'd say I'd take a taxi if I were you. _____________________ What time is the match? I ask because I don't think polo is played in the heat of the day but I could be wrong and.. Most cruise ships leave just about in the middle of a game(around 5 p.m.) but maybe you're on one of the ships that doesn't leave until well after nightfall(which is around 6:30 p.m.) Hope this helps? oakrunfarm Posted January 7, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted January 7, 2009 Thank you! Very helpful info. I am having a hard time finding out when it starts, but it would make sense that it is later in the day. We leave at 5, so if it does start late, that would not work for us. I usually don't ride our own horses in the summer until the sun is at least not overhead anymore, and I don't do anything nearly as strenuous as those riders do. (Ha ha. Quite the understatement...) I think I will do some more checking. There was not a start time on the Club website that I could see. Thanks again.

oakrunfarm Posted January 8, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted January 8, 2009 Thanks very much! :) It looks like it won't work for us this trip, but that is OK. We plan to come back and stay on island for a week or two this year, so we can try to make it then if we come during in-season.
