Do I need the tramway pass in Juneau?

In Juneau, Princess offers an all day tramway pass for $29 a person. But couldn't we just buy a ticket when we get there? What is the price? Are there lines?

 

Since we only will want to go up and down once, not sure what the all day pass gets us.

After going up during the day some time, it's nice to go back up in the evening and watch the city lights come on - that's the point of all-day for us.

Is it cheaper for one trip? We will not be back from whale watching excursion till 4:40 ish and back on ship no later than 7:30. I think we would only have time for one trip.

No, $24.95 is the only fee - it just happens to be good for the whole day, though very few people take advantage of that.

If you're feeling VERY ambitious, you can ride down for 5 bucks if you hike up the mountain (even fewer people take advantage of that! :D )

It's VERY steep, almost always muddy and quite long.
