Hi ,

We are a group of 6 40 -50s cruising on Voyager on 22nd Feb. We will have a couple of nights in Houston pre cruise and have 2 more nights at end of cruise before we fly back to UK. Would be grateful for suggestions as to where to go for last 2 nights. Have a car but don't want to end up any further than about 90mins from the International airport. This is a special trip to celebrate 50th birthday of DH and his twin brother so would love to stay somewhere special. Have never been to Texas before so all will be a new experience. Thank you.

Houston is a very large "city" around 400 sq. miles. You don't list what interests you, but you might want to go see the San Jacinto Monument and the Battleship Texas. The monument is located east of Houston betweeen Deer Park, Texas and La Porte, Texas. The battle for Texas Independence was fought in the area.

Of course, there's the usual: Space Center Houston, catch a Rockets basketball game, the Museum complex at Hermann Park is very nice. Again, depends on what your interests are. As the fourth largest U.S. city, there's PLENTY to do and unlike the freezing North, Feb. is quite pleasant there.

There is a lot in and around Houston. Not knowing what to see makes it a challenge making suggestions.

The internation airport is to the North of the city so downtown is about 30-45 minutes away. There is a lot of shopping (such as the Galleria area), Museums, and Theaters.

You can also travel north (and east) from there and within an hour be well out in the country.

You may want to check out http://www.visithoustontexas.com/ for ideas or post any specific types of activities you would like.

... Would be grateful for suggestions as to where to go for last 2 nights...

It appears to me you are wanting information about some sort of unusual, uncommon, unconventional, etc. type of hotel in the Galveston/Houston area for the 2 nights after your cruise.

Is this correct?

For an exiting fun time and romantic time

do Mardi Gras, Ride in Parade throw beads and stay a better hotel.

Believe timing is right.

Ride on Krewe Parade Trailer/Bus with members of krewe,

and throw beads in parade.

It is a very much fun and a hoot.

Stay at San Luis with heated pool and swim up bar

or Galvez Hotel.

I am native Houstonian,

and couldn't tell you..... what to do there that is exciting.

Maybe the Galleria.

I believe it is later in time, but if Rodeo is happening,

that is the biggest social thing all year in Houston and goes on for a month, partying, big time entertaiment, clubs, dancing, the rodeo, shopping and is one of biggest charties events. Rodeo gives out annually over

S12000000 million dollars in schlorships to kids in the State of Texas.

This is the hotel that the queen stayed at while in Houston several years ago:

http://www.hotelzaza.com/houston/

It was called the Wyndham Warwick but was sold, name change, refurbished. It is in the museum district. This is walking distance to our zoo, museum of natural science(my personal favorite), fine arts museum ,Rice University, and downtown.

Take a 10 minute cab ride or drive to our "chinatown", several city blocks of restaraunts, pharmacies, shops.

Ask a local where to get good BBQ, usually not a chain but a small mom&pop place.

Don't know if it's wrong to post links here, but this is a good list of all that there is to do.:

Have fun and welcome to Texas!

You can join one of the relief groups and spend a day or two helping Galveston and other neighboring areas recover from the Hurricane Ike Damage. That would be something out of the ordinary to do and it would help others an probably make you feel good!!!

There are tons of things to do in the area and all kinds of food available.

Enjoy the cruise and your visit to the Houston and Galveston area afterwards.

Why don't you stay in Galveston? The Hotel Galvez on Seawall is beautiful and has lots of history. They have a fabulous Sunday Brunch.

The musical "Menopause" is playing at the 1894 Grand Opera House from February 24th to March 1st.

There are great restaurants open as well as Moody Gardens to enjoy. The exhibit - Bones: inside you - will be showing at Moody Gardens.

We may have suffered a great hurricane, but we are coming back strong and proud of our island city.

If you are into ghost stories' date=' ask for room #505.

Also, check out the supposedly haunted portrait of Bernardo de Galvez there.

I enjoy watching their Lobby Cam with the hustle and bustle on cruise departure days. Makes me even more jealous that I am not going too!
