Best way to spend the time in Nassau

Hi All,

We are cruising in March to Nassau. We were originally going to do the Dolphin Swim, but have decided to do that elsewhere and are now at a loss as what to do in Nassau. It's our last stop on the cruise and would like to get the "best bang for our buck," so to speak. So, experienced cruisers, any ideas? This is my first cruise, so I'm pretty much up for anything.

Thanks for all the thoughts and opinions!

It really will depend on the amount of time that you have available.

There's so many things to do..

America's cup sailing (www.sailnassau.com)

Flying Cloud Snorkeling (www.flyingcloud.info)

Blue Lagoon Beach Day (www.dolphinencounters.com)

Blackbeards Cay (beach or stingrays or both)

Walking historic tour (forts, water tower, queens staircase).

Golf, tennis.

Scuba or shark snorkeling (www.stuartcove.com)

Native lunch at Arawak Cay's Fish Fry

Shopping at the straw market or downtown Bay Street

Casino at Atlantis or Crystal Palace

Hotel Day Pass

Public beach at Cabbage Beach (Paradise Island) or Lighthouse Beach outside of town.

There's plenty to do.. just have to fit your needs and timeline.

We've pretty much have always gone to BCH, which was very nice..but, Blue Lagoon Island looks really nice. Can you just do the beach thing? and what would be the cost? Anyone know? Thanks....

Blue Lagoon Beach is $45 pp / $35 for kids, It includes the Ferry ride.. a great lunch and water toys like mats and noodles.

There's a shack that rents water trikes as well.

Restrooms, changing rooms, bar and grill. Souveniers etc.

And you can walk over to the area where the Dolphins and Sea Lions programs are being held.

It's a fun day.. for sure.

Scubagirl - thanks for all the posts and information - we will be in Nassau in Feb - we were interested in the Americas cup sailing - i contacted them via email - they replied something to the effect they were no longer operating - their website states closed to new clients - do you know if this is temporary?

Thanks

I've heard that they sometimes close for the winter season.. Not sure what their plans are. They still advertise in the local tourist papers. (i'm sure that's paid ahead of time).

How close is shopping going to be from the port? I would assume it would be everywhere!

SUNSHINE,,,,,,

As soon as you get off

the ship and walk into the

FESTVALE Building,

the shopping begans.....

You walk thru to the exit

You will see NASSAU......

Some people likes to go

to the Straw Market.....

You can find T-shirts,Straw

hats & purses, knock off purses too........

Key Chains shot glasses..........ECT:::::::::

Haven't seen any mention of Ardastra Zoo and Gardens, but that's a great, 1 hour trip for little kids. There's birds and pigs wandering around, some big cats in pens and they also have a trained Flamingo show several times a day. It's a 5 minute cab ride from the pier - they've got a website (not sure exactly but just try ardastrazoo.com or google it) for their admission rates (kids are cheaper). Cab ride - negotiate price ahead of time. My dd and I went on a short 3 day cruise and went there - the cab was $15 which seemed a bit much to me but the driver set up a return pick-up for us an hour or so later and only ended up charging me $20 for the entire trip - there and back. As for the straw market, unless you're a glutton for punishment or just HAVE to shop, hit the booths at the outer edge and then keep going - same stuff inside as outside. Also, there's a pirate museum a couple blocks up from the Straw Market/Senor Frogs and a great little Conch Cafe across the street from the Hilton to grab a good, local lunch.
