mistyinca Posted January 22, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2009 I see some people asking what IS NOT included with the cruise fare, but it makes me wonder about the things that are free that I may not know about. I've only been on one cruise so far, and my next is coming up in April. So far, I've discovered you can get FREE Lanyard at the casino champagne at the art auction cappucino in the dining room (at breakfast too or just dinner?) What else is free that isn't commonly known? Thanks! :)

They also will give you a free Carnival deck of cards there, if you get bored. Oh, and I got a free drink the last time I was on the Victory, because I was asking the bartender (the bar was empty) to make an 'unknown" drink, ie, I listed ingredients/amounts and he fixed me one. One of my local bar's recipes. Man, those things are so good. I think he wanted to make sure it was "right", and let me have it for free.

SenatorsFan Posted January 22, 2009 #7 Share Posted January 22, 2009 Check the Capers for afternoon tea time and location on a sea day. I didn't know about it on Valor, found out about it here on CC and went on Glory. There was an assortment of teas, smoked salmon, strawberries and cream, cakes, etc. plus a nice trio playing. Just an opportunity for relaxing (and eating more;))

This one is my favorite source of free stuff. :p I think I will bring along a timer with a bell from my DW kitchen next week to help me know when the time has expired. :D

Yeah, I was joking around with my DH the other night about getting a handful of timers at the dollar store for our upcoming cruise and to sit them on chairs and then clearing everything off after 30 minutes. Wouldn't that be funny to take down to the front desk and say would you please add these items to your lost and found box? And then walk away... oh the possibilities!!!! Kurbanfan Posted January 22, 2009 #13 Share Posted January 22, 2009 Most everything is included in the price of your cruise, however they do offer a few things you need to pay extra for if you choose to do so....

karen116 Posted January 22, 2009 #15 Share Posted January 22, 2009 If you go to the talks that are given (regarding the ports that you will be stopping at) they usually have give aways - sit close to the front as they usually throw items off from the stage. Thirsty Cruiser Posted January 22, 2009 #16 Share Posted January 22, 2009 Free dranks at the captains and PG parties. Crappy poster at the art auction. Coupons in the shopping guides for crappy stuff you can get free in port. The cruise book in the cabin can sometimes be had for free if you ask the steward nicely. Room service, of course. Travelers checks can be cashed free of charge. (There is a fee for personal checks)
TheVegasMan Posted January 22, 2009 #17 Share Posted January 22, 2009 Instead of turning off the timer after 30 minutes, leave them on the chairs until the owner shows up. Whoever has the highest time of the day gets a "I'm a chair hog" t-shirt or tattoo. Highest accumulated time for the cruise gets a crown made from baby back rib bones. Jeffski Posted January 22, 2009 #18 Share Posted January 22, 2009 Mixed feelings about the chairs...if you don't save one you can't get one (in the sun). Sure if everyone followed the rules it wouldn't be a problem, but that isn't going to happen....see posts on smoking on-board, smuggling alcohol, dining room dress code, etc.
TheVegasMan Posted January 22, 2009 #19 Share Posted January 22, 2009 There were always plenty of chairs in the sun on the sun deck during our cruise. The only time it was crowded was when we were leaving port. Granted there is no pool, food or drinks there. I don't have a problem with someone who after being in the sun for 30 minutes or longer leaves their stuff on the chair for 30-40 minutes while they go eat and or get something from their room. My problem is with the people that stake out a chair at 8:00 am, go to breakfast, head ashore and go to the beach, come back onboard to eat, go take a nap in their cabin, shower, change, go back ashore to shop for alcohol to be smuggled back on the ship, come back onboard, change and go to "their" chair for 15 minutes of sun between 3:45 and 4:00 then go back to their cabin. Funny - I thought it was a 15 minute rule!:D After all, you can do round trip to the cabin and back in 1/2 that time....

TheVegasMan Posted January 22, 2009 #24 Share Posted January 22, 2009 "Are you saying if they don't know how to do it, the drink is free? That could be a great challenge!" As a former bartender my answer would be NO. What I call a Colorado Bulldog you might call a Carolina Mudslinger. Lots of drinks have different names, depends on where you are as to what it's called. I had some latitiude as to how many free drinks I was able to pour, but "Stump the bartender" was not the way to do it. Being female and tipping was the easiest way to get free drinks from me. I did have a lot of fun trying out new recipes and giving away tasters, but this was when I would make one drink and serve it into 5 or 6 shot glasses so a group could get a taste and decide if they wanted to purchase the ful sized drink. Not sure how much leeway the bartender making $1.50 a day (before tips) on a Carnival ship has in the number of drinks they can give away.
