Mexican Riviera - Hurricanes in August?

We're sailing in mid August in the Mexican Riviera on MOS in an aft cabin. We did a forward cabin in August in the Western Carib and had beautiful weather with basically no waves. I know the Pacific isn't the same, but what are the weather and waves like out there during late summer? I'm from Ohio so not familiar. I've read the water is colder than the carib but I'm more worried about hurricanes and rough seas (just a teeny little fear I'm trying to get over..) Thanks for easing my mind... I hope!:)

It is hurricane season on the Pacific side, too, but they don't get nearly the same number as the Caribbean gets. And, if I'm not mistaken, they don't seem to be as devastating. Cabo seems to get it worse. We are sailing in August too, but I am not as worried as I was in the Caribbean at the same time. We were dodging hurricanes on both cruises.

September/October are probably the worst months for Pacific Coast hurricanes. They are not as frequent, but when they occur...they are just as devastating to the ports and itineraries. :) We missed all 3 ports on a Mexican Riviera Carnival cruise in 1998 (hurricane Nora).

I know people worry about hurricanes and I understand that. But these cruise ships handle hurricanes very well. I don't mean they ride them out, but they are so good at avoiding them. My first cruise, I was stuck in Hurricane Andrew. We had to anchor pretty close to Cuba to avoid the worst of it. Ended up staying on the ship for an extra two days. Now that's not so bad, is it? ;):D It actually was pretty funny. Knowing people didn't pack a lot of extra clothes (went from a 3night to a 5night), they let everyone in the dining room for dinner with tshirts and shorts and such.

Anyway, we cruise ALOT in september and I just don't worry about hurricanes anymore. Lesson learned. They know what to do to keep you safely away. You may get a rocky night, but it is not terrible. Have fun on your cruise!

We traveled the Mexican Riviera about three years ago in August and the weather was actually nice in Cabo and Puerto Vallarta. Sunny and warm. Mazatlan was a little gloomy though. The ocean was calm while out to sea. It only got rough heading back home to San Diego. It was funny watching the people in the casino falling off their stools on that last night! :p
