ECCruise Posted January 26, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 26, 2009 Yes, some of the rental companies have shuttles. Just be certain that it goes to the West Maui Airport (JHM) which is reasonably close to Lahaina. The main Maui Airport (OGG) where most flights originate and where the rental compnies have the largest presence, is an hour (or more) away, each way. Hertz has a couple of satellite locations in Lahaina itself, which generally is a bit easier.
Rare WNcruiser Posted January 26, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 26, 2009 Check out: hawaiidiscountcarrental.com, click on "cruise ship arrivals" and on the right side of the page you will see Lahaina car rentals. There are several threads about car rentals on the Hawaii boards.
greydog Posted January 26, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 26, 2009 http://www.Alohatoystore.com has small rental office 1 block from dock past the Banyan and if you return early evening there are spots in their lot to park overnight free, EXCEPT THAT THEY CHARGE ABOUT DOUBLE the majors for rental. They feature Wranglers, 'upscale' sports models and Harleys. Lamborghini anyone - sorry, you'll have to take the Ferrari. We got a Wrangler (dang!) for about $80 per day last year - but very convenient. ENJOY;)
robtulipe Posted January 26, 2009 #5 Share Posted January 26, 2009 Last May we rented our vehicle from Dollar/Alamo that provided shuttle service from the pier to their location and back. That location was 4 miles north of the harbor on Hwy 30 in Kaanapali about 2/3 of the way to the West Mauri airport. We got back late from touring the island the first day and left early the next so we just left the car overnight on Front St just south of the harbor/banyan tree area. There were no signs there banning overnight parking. If you are unconfortable with this, there are also many pay parking lots in that area where you can leave a vehicle overnight
Rare coldinerie Posted January 27, 2009 #6 Share Posted January 27, 2009 Here is a tip I found on the boards last year when we went to Maui and the other islands on NCL, sign up in advance for the express pick up of the car by visiting the web site of the car rental co. This will save you lots of time, at least for Dollar rental car, and maybe the other. You can keep the car overnight and have it for the next day. We loved our rental car! They pick you up at the port! Enjoy your trip, and watch for the whales, they and their calfs are everywhere!:D
