JJPacer Posted February 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2009 I am not sure what this is. The TA says it's something the TA agent gives it's customers.. TA is giving $300.00 of APV to be used like on board credit. Also, $300.00 on board credit per cabin and pre-paiud gratutites pp. are given from the cruise line. I'm skeptical, because things that are too good to be true, usually are. Has this happened to you. Can you explain it to me? Thanks.
regnig Posted February 6, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2009 Never heard of it  while OBC we all understand. Maybe it's one of those coupon books that require you to spend money to get any thing "free". I'd ask my TA for specifics were I you so that I'd know in advance in case "it" is missing when you board the ship.
paul929207 Posted February 6, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 6, 2009 Before counting on the "Amenity Value Package", I would ask questions about it. My guess it that it is coupons. If you buy something you don't want they will give you a second one "free". Or things like that.

It definitely sounds way too good to be true, which send bells and whistles off in my brain. Let us know when you find out please! :)

Let us know when you find out please! :) I've never heard of this either, and I'm assuming that I would have, if it is something that Princess themselves provide, during one of their sales seminars and webinars. It could be something that the agency is providing and has named that...

Sometimes TAs will offer prepaid gratuities as part of a group booking. I was booked on a group cruise on Celebrity for later this month (had to cancel it though) which had prepaid gratuities. They weren't free, however as the invoice clearly had a line on it stating XXX amount for gratuities as part of the total fare.
JJPacer Posted February 6, 2009 Author #9 Share Posted February 6, 2009 In answer to my qestion about it, the TA said in an e-mail "The Amenity Value Package that we offer is essentially onboard credit andcan be used as such during your cruise. Some of the things you could use itfor are gratuities, the spa, the casino, shore excursions, onboard shopping,& bar tabs. This onboard credit is offered by our agency."Actually this is a cruise thru Azamara and not Princess. But I thought someone might have heard of it before. I have never heard of it until we booked the Azamara cruise. Our thoughts were that it was probably a coupon book also, offering discounts for things we wouldn't ordinarily purchase. So we're not going to think of it as a "discount" when considering the price of the cruise. I appreciate your imput. Apparently it's not a common sales tactic, if you good folks haven't heard of it. Or, possibly it's something new. Maybe we'll all see more of it. Who knows. Thanks again.

Colo Cruiser Posted February 6, 2009 #11 Share Posted February 6, 2009 If it is the coupon book, then give it back to the TA to use on her coffee table at home. :p

jbrambach Posted February 6, 2009 #14 Share Posted February 6, 2009 I don't know if this is the same thing, but I have seen a promotion that a certain online travel agency does where you get a certain amount of points based on how much you spend on your cruise. I think it is something like 1 point/every $3. Anyway, those points then in turn can be used as OBC, or to by a wine& dine package (RCCL). I have never used it, but maybe that is what your TA is referring too? Again, I would want it spelled out for me b4 I booked;):)

I would wonder if it is not redeemable for cash at the end of the cruise should you not use it all.
Lynda90 Posted February 6, 2009 #16 Share Posted February 6, 2009 If it's the same thing as an on board credit, then why don't they call it that so you know what they are talking about. I don't think any of us has ever heard of an AVP. If it's the worthless coupon book that TA's typically give, it's definitely not the same as obc. But, since your TA says it's really obc, I would ask for it to be completely spelled out in writing.
Pia1913 Posted February 6, 2009 #17 Share Posted February 6, 2009 Hey guys...........this poster is on Azamara, not Princess. A completely different entity. They pay a lot more, so maybe they have some other kind of incentive.
