Sailing out of Puerto Rico on Victory

I have been reading the reviews of the Carnival Victory which sails out of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Many of the reviewers do not like having to hear announcements made in both spanish and english and talk about the number of Puerto Rican citizens on board the ship. Frankly I do not know what these people expect when you sail out of a area which has a native language of Spanish .....German??? When you fly from the US to Latin American Country they give safety instructions in Spanish and English, many of the flight attendents speak both languages as does the pilot. Why would you think they would not do this on a ship?

I am an American living in a South American country so I understand how it feels when you can only speak your native tongue. It is a big stress reliever to hear English in a Spanish speaking country but I do not expect it. This is not my home. When people travel outside of the US you should not expect the native country to speak your language. You have to adapt to their language and culture and this goes especially when you travel on a cruise ship that cruises out of an area that speaks a language other than your own.

Lower your expections, open your minds and you will have a great time on this cruise. Our family did.

The world is made of all different kinds of people. There are some who go with the flow, some who look for things to complain about, etc. etc. etc. We personally had a blast when we sailed the Destiny out of San Juan - three years in a row. Didn't notice any unruly behavior. We would sail the Victory again but the itinerary is just too port-intensive for us, and would not mind sailing out of San Juan again.

Well said. We have the Victory booked and plan to have a great time.

 

After all, with 7 ports we will be off the ship every day.

I've sailed from San Juan three times on the Destiny. Last year we did the itinerary that the Victory is now doing. Absolutely loved it. I really liked having a different port each day over sea days. I'd sail from San Juan again anytime. We had no complaints on any of the cruises.

We've sailed out of San Juan three times as well (one on the Inspiration and twice on the Destiny) and not one time did I realize that the announcements were in English and Spanish.

 

The only time I thought that it was odd was on a Delta flight into LAX from Atlanta in the 80's. Maybe I just don't pay attention to these announcments when I'm on ship.:o
