Visa or MC gift cards

Does anyone know if a visa or M/C gift card is used the same as a credit card on the sail and sign?

Sometimes the fine print on those gift cards say that they cannot be used at certain places and they sometimes say cruiselines. I've never tried to use one just because the fine print said I couldn't. But it might work anyway.

I've seen posted on here that NO, they are not. Carnival requires a card that has a persons name on it.

Not sure if this would help but I know you can use gift cards to purchase OBCs. I do this often as the company I work for loves to give gift cards for different reasons. I have used the big 3 Amex, Visa and MC and have never had a problem with using them of the OBCs

Debit cards with the Visa or MC logo are acceptable for Sign and Sail but gift cards or not.

Visa/MC gift cards can be applied to your account after you board, but they can't use it like a cc or debit card for your entire S&S because they can't put a hold on them.

I couldn't even use one to make a payment, if you can believe it! Like another poster said, those cards sometimes can't be used on cruiselines.. read the fine print. *shrug*

I had trouble using one in a restaurant because the total bill combined with their 25% hold was over the amount. I used it later at a restaurant on a less expensive meal and then used what was left (to the penny) at Starbucks to load my coffee card. Those gift cards are not very user friendly. I'd rather just use my cc.

I just got visa card from a rebate with att.Its got my name on it.Wonder if it will work for our s&s account?
