I would love to do a kids-free cruise; Maybe not every time I cruised, but I think it would be fun to try.

I certainly wouldn't go if the prices were a fortune though. It would have to be the same price I usually pay for a balcony cabin. And the only reasaon I brought up the price is because I wondered if a cruiseline would have to charge more to make up for the price difference people pay for the children who are usually the 3rd & 4th passengers in a cabin.

No children; nobody over 60; nobody under 40; no bingo; no smoking; no hairy chest contests; no ugly people; no fat people; no skinny people; nobody who is just the right weight. :D

LOL and no chair hogs!

I voted #3

I don't think I will mind if kids are on the cruise I'm going on, UNLESS they are running down the halls when I'm trying to sleep (a very common occurence when I've been in motels) :p I wouldn't mind a "childless" cruise though. I think i could go either way on this. I did chose #1 though...

It's really not the kids. It's that one family in one hundred where the parents have no concept, or care about consideration. Of course those kids run amok. They don't know any better.

I have a bunch of kids and a few of them cruise with us at times. I love seeing kids on cruises- teens congregating on the stairs at night having so much fun, little girls in braids, babies- you name it. I love seeing children. I even love it when there are a bunch of 'tweens in the hot tubs. They are having so much fun- can you imagine it? I can- I took my first cruise when I was 11.

HOWEVER, I hate crowded ships. Kids mean three and four people in a cabin. So... if there was a kid free cruise I might book it just because I would know it was a less crowded ship.

Book the right time of year and itinerary and ships are all but kid free. No real need for a kid free cruise since these are the dates they would use anyway.

Sure there is. Having a cruise be "all but kid free" is hardly the same thing. With the varied school schedules, home schooling, and parents who flat take their kids out of school during those times in order to take advantage of the off season, special rates, or specific itineraries, there are more kids on all such cruises these days. What would be wrong with having a few cruises a year be adults only--and advertised as such so that parents wouldn't plan for that specific ship and date and then be disappointed.

there are many cruise lines that discourage children by the prices. You are free to go on those cruises. I never have been bothered by children...now teenagers are another story and what most people are talking about....here anyway.

Yes, those cruise lines that "discourage" families with children with high prices are well outside the budget of many adult cruisers. We're not "free" to go on those cruises. As well, why should people who really enjoy NCL (or any other cruise line) be told "Go somewhere else" if all they are asking for is to have a few cruises per year be for adults only? Heck, I'd be all for families with kids only cruises a few time a year too. Why not?

A few years ago, ex-husband and I went on a vacation to Cancun.... the resort had 2 hotels... one "family" hotel, and one "adults" hotel.

As it was our first vacation without our daughter, we thought the "adult" option would be nice.

Omygod... it gave a whole new meaning to our concept of "adult" !!

People marching around naked.... making out in the pools....

More people drunk than sober!!!:eek::eek::eek:

After 2 days we moved to the "family" hotel!!!

Suddenly..... I loved the "family" concept!! :D

OMG! But that doesn't suprise me in Cancun or with some of the AI places we've heard about (e.g., Hedonism). You couldn't get us to go to a place like that on a bet...Well, maybe if the payoff was a couple of million dollars.;) That doesn't mean that adults only cruises on our favorite mainstream cruise lines would be the same way. From the look of the poll numbers, there are many average, normal members here who would like the chance to, once in a while, book a cruise for adults only.

I would love to take a cruise that is kids free. I do not enjoy hearing the little ones scream or the older ones curse. I have teenagers of my own, but would enjoy a venue where there aren't kids banging spoons on the table, where I wasn't hit in the head by a ball in the pool. I work as a ER Rn, and see my share of screaming kids. By saying that an adult venue would be great is not saying that families and kids are bad, just that it would be nice to have an option not to have them around during a vacation that I am paying for. There are so many other options for families and kids, so many places that cater to them.

When I look at the cruise, I’m looking at the price (value for money) more than anything else. Kids have never bottered me on a cruise (but my NCL cruises have never been in the summer or march break peak period). If I had a specific week to cruise and it was during march break or the summer, I would definitely look into a adult-only cruise but it would need to have a fair price, I would not pay 25% more to sail in a kid free environment for example.

I think there is a market for a few adult-only cruises every year but probably not for a dedicated ship (people would get tired of sailing the same ship and maybe the same itinerary year after year anyway).

I have a 2 1/2 year old and am leaving him with his grandmom when my DH and I go on our cruise in 4 days, therefore of course I would enjoy a kid-free vacation. However when you remove kids sometimes adults go crazy. Just because I am an adult, that doesn't mean I want to see you parade around naked, have sex in public, and act crazy. We would just be trading one issue for another. I also agree that usually the kids aren't the one's that annoy me, it is the teenagers.

A few random thoughts ...

1) My wife and I have always scheduled our cruises for times where the amount of kids would be "minimal", such as beginning of December, beginning of May, that sort of thing. That being said, we've never had any problems of any sort with the kids on board.

2) We've always found that most of the kids that *Are* on board are MORE polite, and MORE "adult" then most of the adults on board.

3) Our experience has been that it's mostly the adults on board who complain the most, are more arrogant and obnoxious, more self-centered, and more demanding then the kids are. Need we say ... "chair hogs"? Need we say ... "Oblivious to everyone else around them"? Need we say ... whatever, point made.

The kids we've come across have fun but they have been low-key -- the adults, in our experience, seem to have more of a sense of arrogant entitlement, along the lines of "I've paid good money, you sure as heck better give us our due ... and that means NOW, GOSH DARN IT!!"

My title was supposed to be "This is why I would NOT choose kid free" Sorry for the confusion:o:D

LOL..so this will be an empty ship huh?? LOL..

We are not much for themed cruises, and to me this would be a themed cruise. We have the option of taking "gay" cruises, but we don't because we enjoy the mixture/blend of people that we have encounted on cruise ships. So far we have never encounted kids that caused us to wish they were not there, on a cruise. Maybe that is because we spend the most of our time in the casino.

We sail with our kids but I have no issue with an adults only cruise . Now all you have to do is convince NCL to sail 3/4 capacity . You know they are not going to give up those 3rd and 4th pax $$. ;)

OR..... Those who really like the idea can book a charter .

I would so love, love, love this option. My husband and I would absolutely love an adult-only cruise. I would beg and borrow at work to get the time off to cruise whatever week the cruise offered this. I hope that NCl reads these boards and possibly would offer this on some of their ships a couple of times a year!

I don't mind the kids as long as they are well behaved. No running up and down the halls, knocking on doors, pushing all the buttons in the elevators, etc. The last cruise we went on there was a group of 3-4 families traveling together. The kids (8, I think) all appeared to be between 8-10 years old. At dinner (this was on a traditional cruise) all the adults sat at one table, and all the kids at another. They were the best behaved kids I have ever seen and always had a great time at dinner. On formal nights they were dressed up just like their parents.

As for the teens, as long as they are not obnoxious, cursing, etc., they are okay as well. Like someone mentioned earlier - it's really the parents that don't watch their kids that cause the problems.

We were on Regent a couple of years ago and there was a family, 2 adults with husbands and 5 kids between them aged 7 and down, and 2 grandparents. Regent is a very lovely line -- refined, I guess is a good way to describe it. Well, it was obvious from day 1 that the parents and grandparents were on vacation and the kids just tagged along. I have never seen a more obnoxious group of children in my life. It was so bad that when we made a reservation a year later for a Regent cruise, the agent at Regent had heard about this cruise, and talked about it, still. Oceania is very upfront...to paraphrase, there are no activities for children and they might be happier elsewhere.

I usually don't see alot of kids on the cruises we take,,,but we cruise in late sept. and kids are just starting back to school, so not too many on board. I like teens, so they don't bother me.

I just wish they had adult only pool and hot tub...or one they enforce as adult only.

No, there are not. There are not "lots" of "adult-only" cruise lines--and I think you know that. And again, why should we be told "go somewhere else" when we really like NCL (or RCI or Princess, in our case as well)? What would be so horrible about having a few cruises per year be adults only? It's not a matter of wanting to ban kids from cruises. I maintain that cruising can be a great family vacation. It's also not a matter of "hating" having kids around. Do you have any idea how many parents enjoy both times with their kids and times just for the parents? Does that make all of us "kid haters"? No, it does not. It would be nice to have the choice to have, say, 2 cruises per year per ship be adults only. It doesn't need to be holiday time or spring break, for pity's sake. Just a time here and there for grownups only.

I think it's easy enough to find "kid freeish" cruises. We went last July with our children (they are not goats) to Europe. There were about 25 children on the entire ship. I would statistically call that "kid free". What I love is when people book a cruise to the carribbean over spring break and complain about the amount of kids running around, it's like going to new orleans during mardi gras and complaining about the drinking. What are you stupid?

But be carefulo of school season - that's when those with babies and infants come out. Those "kids" can be more dreadful than the ambulatory type.

Obviously I'm against this idea of "kid free" cruising. Go more upscale, smaller ships, families don't tend to go there.

How about this poll. Whine free cruising???
