PRCruiser Posted April 28, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 28, 2004 Hello cruisers: Decided at the very last minute (ie TODAY!) to sail next Monday on the Monarch of the Seas out of LA, great deals check them out! However, have not been able to find directions to the port and how much it is to park your car there. Is there a company that is better than others, take credit cards, etc. Like always all your help is appreciated! reggierail Posted April 28, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 28, 2004 The Port of LA is located at the southern end of the Harbor Freeway in San Pedro. As you travel south on the 110 freeway(Harbor Freeway) you will see directions to the World Cruise Center via Harbor Blvd. Be careful not to get caught going over the Vincent Thomas Bridge going to Long Beach. You will get off just before going over the bridge. There is only one place to park at the cruise center and it costs $11 per day, the price just went up from $10 per day several months ago. You can circle the parking and drop your bags off and then park your car. Have a great cruise. jkrislc Posted April 28, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 28, 2004 Reggies right on! When you exit Harbor Blvd., be sure to avoid the Vincent Thomas Bridge or you'll head into Long Beach. When you exit, you'll cross over Harbor Blvd. and turn right into the cruise center. Once you get of the freeway, you can't miss it as you'll see the Monarch waiting ever so majestically for you. Parking is $11 per day paid when you leave. They now accept credit cards, so you wont need to worry about having cash. FlorenceItaly Posted April 29, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 29, 2004 How far is the port from LAX??? I am contemplating this cruise later in May, but so far the airfare is higher than the cruise itself. I sure would like to do the 4 day itinerary. Thanks for your input. tinkerme1 Posted April 29, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 29, 2004 The port isn't very far from LAX. The real question is, when will you arrive at the airport. Traffic patterns in LA vary greatly and time waiting in traffic is the key factor in getting to/from the port. BTW, the World Cruise Center in San Pedro is on the internet...just do a search in Yahoo or Google. Once you get the address, which is on the website, you can go to MAPQUEST.com and get driving directions to the port. Makes it much easier to get there. FlorenceItaly Posted April 29, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 29, 2004 Celia - Thanks for the info. We would be flying in, so I was wondering about the cost of a taxi. Since it is close, it shouldn't be too outrageous. Currently the airfare is higher than the cruise, so I am not sure whether this will become a reality or not. joyceyw Posted April 29, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 29, 2004 Hi Exahlthim, I'm not too sure how much a cab would cost from LAX to the Pier. Even though others say its close its not as close as you think. LA traffic is terrible coming from LAX which may make the cab fare much more expensive. I'm not sure where you are coming from but Long Beach has an airport. American and jetBlue fly into Long Beach as well as others can't remember who else sorry. Traffic between Long Beach and San Pedro would be quicker and easier. Probably a cheaper cab fare. Also try Supershuttle. I say this because I live in the Long Beach area. FlorenceItaly Posted April 29, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 29, 2004 Joyce - Thank you so much for your input. I just checked Long Beach fares and they are significantly higher than LAX. I think I am giving up on this deal. It's just not coming together, and I have been working it since last evening. jstducky Posted April 29, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 29, 2004 sorry to hear that airfare out here is so high... just so you have the info though, the port of LA in San Pedro is approx. 30-35 miles south of LAX. i beleive that a cab should cost around $40-$45. as joycelyn said, you might want to try supershuttle, they should be cheaper... jstducky! ----------------- ...til 9/04 - Jewel of the Seas - Canada / New England ==================================== ...til 7/04 - Zuiderdam - Western Caribbean ===================================== 7/03 - Zaandam - Alaska 4/03 - Norweigan Star - Hawaii 7/96 - Noordam - Alaska 7/96 - Golden Princess - Alaska 8/95 - Jubilee - Mexican Riviera

endi302 Posted May 9, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 9, 2004 Andres, We sailed with you on the Rhapsody 10/2003 and remember you had the one of the back rooms. We are booking Rhapsody again and just wondering if you thought that room is as big as the other JR suites. We booked 8088 for april 2005. Any preference on either corner? Thanks for your help!
