Tisha49 Posted March 10, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 10, 2009 How much is appropriate to tip room service (coffee in the morning only)? Do you tip bartenders since gratuity is already added in? Not sitting there all evening, but just going up to get one or two drinks. How much are the arcade games? That stuff is always expensive and I really don't want the kids to be wasting tons of money on it, but perhaps a small amount each day. Thanks

Thanks For room service, I usually tip $1 for coffee...and more if they're bringing a whole meal, but never more than $3-$4. We don't tip bartenders unless they've gone out of their way to provide good service (mixed a special drink, or found a particular liquor that was out of the ordinary). I can't speak to the arcade games. I'm guessing they're in the casino area? I don't go there.
MCManders99 Posted March 10, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 10, 2009 Tipping a couple bucks for room service is acceptable (depending on how much you order). On my last Princess Cruise, I tipped the two Promenade bartenders extra at end of cruise because they went out of their way for me. When giving someone a daquiri or other frozen connection, they always gave me the extras leftover in a small glass. I spent alot of time there and ordered many drinks from them. If the bartenders go out of their way and you keep going to the same person, I'd tip alittle extra.
cb at sea Posted March 10, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 10, 2009 If we frequent one particular bartender the entire cruise, we will slip them something extra on the last night. Generally, that 15% is ample to open a beer or mix a simple cocktail!
bplazo Posted March 10, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 10, 2009 I have never tipped the bartender extra since it is already added on to the bill. For room service it depends if it is a snack or breakfeast. We tip at the minimum $3.00 for room service.
pbc1 Posted March 11, 2009 #6 Share Posted March 11, 2009 We gave the kids 2 rolls of quarters each and told them when it was gone, it was gone. They did not have signing privelges, when they saw something they wanted they had to get me to buy it. (they both had their own money which I held) :D
cruiserbryce Posted March 11, 2009 #7 Share Posted March 11, 2009 we dont tip at the bar above the already paid amount...for Room Service we tip anywhere from $1-5 depending on the size of the order, but will always tip something
Iluvmypuggle Posted March 11, 2009 #8 Share Posted March 11, 2009 Like others have said, a couple bucks for room service depending on how much you order. And if a bartender goes out of his way for us or spends some extra time talking to us and has a great attitude, we usually tip a little extra for his/her service. Otherwise, the 15% is fine. I wish I remembered how much arcade games were so I could give you that info. I am a big kid and I have to visit the arcade at least once during a trip, but I don't remember the prices. cruisinatdawn Posted March 11, 2009 #9 Share Posted March 11, 2009 When we were on Princess, 2 years ago, we put all out room service tips ($1-$5, depending on what we ordered) on our room card, but I've seen in several post that people have said to bring plenty of small bills for tipping, is it better to use cash for tips? Putterdude Posted March 11, 2009 #10 Share Posted March 11, 2009 We do not tip the bartenders and just let the 15% cover it. In terms of room service we tip $2 for a continental breakfast that Princess offers.

I would say it is better to use cash because the server gets it right away. If you add the tip to your account, the server does not get it until his/her paycheck. And I am not sure, but it may be taxed. Cash would just be more convenient for the server.
