Ocean view on lower deck--do you get a view?

So we've just booked our very first cruise on Legend of the Seas, and the best we can afford is an ocean view on Deck 3. We're perfectly fine with the lower deck location but something just occured to me...will we actually be able to 'see' anything from Deck 3, or will we basically just see waves/water?

We decided to spring for the outside cabin purely for the view. If we're not going to get one, then we'd probably go back down to an inside cabin.

Thanks!

The cruise we are taking is Eastern Med, so we will (I assume) go close enough to several Greek islands to get a "view." On the other days, i agree, we'd probably only see the water.

Unless of course I'm totally wrong, and we wouldn't even get a view of the Greek islands...which may just answer my question! :)

Haven't been to the Med, so I can't attest to that, but we have had an OV on Deck 3 and liked it. We were able to look out and see the islands as we were coming into port...yes, the view up on the higher decks is better and open, but if you want the privacy of your room, and you don't want to pay for a balcony, it will be fine. Some people have the opinion that if you can't afford a balcony, you should just get an inside, but I have always liked the OV to have some natural light come in, and to be able to look out at the water...you will be close to the water line on Deck 3.

None of the OV's have much of a view---you have no "side to side" view, because of the glass in the window.

If you want a big view, you need a balcony. A window (or porthole) is mainly for letting in light--not so much for looking outward!

each of our OV cabins without a balcony have been on deck 3 or 4 and we have always enjoyed the view from the cabin. On sea days you pretty much just look out at the ocean, buts its stil nice on port days to open up the curtains and see somewhere new

Hi,

We're sailing on that itinerary on 1st June. We were down in the scuppers on deck 2 O/S. But I went in the TA last month to ask how much to go up a few decks to see if I could afford to.

I was surprised to find that the cost was UK£ 100 (About US$ 140) LESS than we ere going to pay for deck2. So we got a reduction and also a reduction on the fuel duty.

We have cruised before but it's our 1st time with RCI.

Some on here say it's handy having an outside as you can tell what time of day it is.

There should be plenty to see from the ship as it cruises down the Italian coast and through the Greek Isles.

For views go and sit in the Viking Crown Lounge late afternoon and early evening. The last ship we were on had the equivalent lounge with panoramic windows and we spent most of our time after excursions and before dinner there with a relaxing drink. The views were fantastic.

We only used the cabin for crashing out for a while after a tiring excursion and were hardly in it in the day otherwise.

Sorry it was long winded

Berwyn

I don't know about Legend, but on some older RCI ships the lowest decks have small porthole-size windows that won't allow you to see alot. Also some windows near the front of the ship are in a tunnel-like structure, so you are looking throiugh a long tube. On Majesty, for example, even some of the higher decks are blocked by life boats, so only a little light shines in.

In contrast, on RCI Freedom Class ships, the windows on deck two and three are quite large and, yes, you can see scenery when there is scenery to see.

If you want to see scenery in a panoramic manner, go to the highest decks outside and watch from there.

Have a great cruise.

Thank you, everyone, for all of the great advice! The pictures of the window were especially helpful.

I ended up researching the Legend floor plans a bit more and realized we were directly under the Casino/Bar... I'm a very light sleeper and sensitive to noise, so we decided to move rooms. Taking into consideration the small time we'll be in the room, the great views to be had in the lounges/top ship, and our small budget, we ended up "downgrading" to an interior room but one on Deck 6. It's a good trade off for us, and maybe on our next cruise we can afford the balcony everyone talks about! :)

Thank you again.
