Water shoes for Stingray City?

You do not need shoes for this excursion...actually it is better that you do not. If you should accidentally step on or kick one of the rays, the hard tread on your shoes can injure the delicate skin on the ray. The sand there is super soft, no rocks or coral and you can see the bottom anyways where you are standing.

You actually are NOT allowed to wear water shoes at Stingray City at all...for exactly the reasons you state.

Do you wear water shoes at the Stingray City sandbar or go barefoot? I'm trying to decide if I need to pack the family's shoes or not. Thanks!

The excursions actually now have to tell you to go barefoot, to protect the stingrays. (no water shoes, swim socks of snorkle fins)

The sand is so soft, you'll be glad you were barefoot anyway.
