cruisingbajan Posted March 17, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 17, 2009 We will be in Barbados in about 6 weeks. What things are a must see and do? It depends on what you are interested in...there is so much you can do. There is Harrisons Cave, you have some snorkelling...catamarans....there are plenty of historic churches...Oistins...you get the picture:D What exactly are you interested in ? jetertorre Posted March 18, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 18, 2009 Hi Bajan- I'll jump in here since there seems to be a void at the moment. I'd like to go to Rockley beach for the better portion of my day. If I wanted to mix in something else for 2-3 hours that would blend in nicely with Rockley, what would you recommend? Thanks! You could visit the Barbados Museum(which you can take in either b4 or after your rockley vist) it is all along the same route. It is a pretty small museum which you could probably do in less than 2 hours. There is also a bit of shopping directly opposite the beach. If you can tell me what u are interested in I maybe able to give you some better ideas

cruisingbajan Posted March 27, 2009 #6 Share Posted March 27, 2009 What type of accommodations does Rockley have? Tell me more, please. Rockley has all the usual amenities...beach bar/chair/umbrella rentals...bathrooms/changing rooms. There is also a fast food restaurant across the street as well as a mini mall where you can get your souvenirs
Aplmac Posted March 27, 2009 #7 Share Posted March 27, 2009 Lately(another thread) someone combined a round of Golf at nearby Rockley Golf Club -with the rest of the day at Accra/Rockley Beach. I believe it was boys did golf, later joining the girls at the beach? Just a thought..

I have just read on CC to watch out for Chicken George's at Rockley...tries to rip off your money.... Anyway, on a lighter note I need the expertise of the 2 locals...Keith and alpmac.... I see your post all over and I have come to believe you know this island better than just about anyone on CC. I need help planning our day...I have signed up with one of Cameron Reid's employee's for the 14th..it's a Tuesday.....9am to 3 pm...I am sure you know him!! I REALLY wanted to go to Harrison Cave but of course it is closed...anyway to sneak a peak?? Not a big history buff...some okay... We really want to see: Green Monkeys Swim with Sea Turtles Snorkeling...(Appears Paynes has the best??)Is it?? We have our own equipment. Drive by Gold Coast see fancy stuff maybe? Can someone tell me in time order the best way to plan this trip... I am a planner, sometimes to a fault, but I just like to know my day will be planned somehow. We arrive at 7 and the ship sail at 4 (rather early I think) Can you help me??? Tired of trying to do this by myself!! Thanks in advance... Aplmac Posted March 31, 2009 #13 Share Posted March 31, 2009 You don't have enough stuff to do already. :D You should try to squeeze in The Lion at Gun Hill as well... - and Orchid World too Now you've got a full day! Sooner or later you have to make a hotel booking and spend a week here. .

For the most part you seem to be on the west coast which is good but I am concerned about time. Not sure if you maybe able to fit all this in but if you plan to hire a cab he should be able to help you out with the timing.

swom Posted April 4, 2009 #16 Share Posted April 4, 2009 OK, I need Keith and aplmac too. If we go to Rockley beach to spend the day, how hard is it to get to the beach to swim with the turtles too and how would one go about doing this? Any boats at Rockley to take you there? Sorry to hijack this thread. :)

Any boats at Rockley to take you there? ===> No way! Accra beach is on the South Coastmiles away from where the turtles are, on the West Coast. If you simply must do both, I'd suggest an early start off the ship -and head for Accra to do the morning until about noon, then get a taxi at Accra/Rockley and head for Paynes Bay or Holetown on the West coast by which time the afternoon sun will be lighting up the West Coast all pretty for your photographs. And again I say, find and consult an internet map of the island to see what what is located where so you're not operating blind. .

Aplmac Posted April 5, 2009 #20 Share Posted April 5, 2009 Harrisons cave is closed when we are there....is there another place on the island to see caves?? It looks sooo cool I would hate to miss it!!:( Only other cave location I can think of is Animal Flower Cave- a sea-cave right up at the Northern tip of the island and completely different to Harrisons! It's not as spectacular, nor as well-lit...but then AFC has several natural windows out to the sea where light gets in, so there's no real need for artificial lighting at all. The sea-cliff scenery to either side of AFC is worth the drive up there.. and you'll get to see pretty much the length of the island en route ..not to mention various stops along the way. Bouganvillea blooms! .

cruisin'234 Posted April 6, 2009 #24 Share Posted April 6, 2009 I just came back from my cruise which stopped in Barbados and it was one of my favorite islands. We took a local bus to Paynes bay, rented a glass bottom boat for 20 bux each and went snorkeling with the turtles which was awesome! So if you want to swim with the turtles, I suggest Paynes bay!
