Quality hotel in Dallas.........any info please

We are ending up in Dallas for a couple of nights and could do with some advice on where to stay, we fancy the Ritz Carlton or the Rosewood Mansion. As we don't know the area which would be better for walking to local shops, bars and restaurants? I have no perception of what Dallas is like so any help would be appreciated.

I'm not a Dallas expert, but I have traveled to the area numerous times on business. My experience is that almost no one walks in Dallas except from a building to a car, so you should be prepared to rent a car or take taxis.

 

We had hoped sometime to have dinner at Turtle Creek - it was rumored to be wonderful, but reservations are definitely required (and perhaps some dressing up). It sounds like a unique place, not just another fancy hotel belonging to a well known chain of hotels.

 

Dallas is huge. I don't think you should pick your hotel just so you can walk to some shops and restaurants. Everyone drives in Dallas, so parking is usually available and not totally outrageous like in New York.

The Ritz is better located to walk to shops along McKinney Avenue or Dallas Museum of Art and The Meyerson. However, you cannot beat the service you will receive at the Mansion. There are parks near the Mansion and shops along Oaklawn/Lemmon area, but probably too far to walk from the hotel. I believe they have transportation that can drop you off and you call when you are ready to be picked up. Another option is the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine. They have SUV's to shuttle you to the nearby mall or downtown Grapevine and the service is nice there, as well. It is an enormous hotel with Texas flair.

Have you considered staying in Fort Worth? It is walkable friendly with plenty of restaurants in all price ranges, bars and clubs, hotels, a few small shops, The Bass Performance Hall, plus some history. Fort Worth is approxiamately the same distance from DFW airport as Dallas is, 20-25 minutes.

I am not sure why the steakhouses that are downtown are not listed on the Sundance Square website. If you want to experience Texas, stay in Fort Worth. ;)

If you want a resort like setting I'd snag a room at the Gaylord.

 

When up there on business I stayed in Dallas proper on 35...now when I go up I usually stay in Ft Worth/Keller with my sister and her family.

 

As said before plan to drive or hire a lot of taxis.

I work in downtown Fort Worth. It's such nice place to stay. There is a brand new Omni Hotel right in downtown. Lot's of nice things to see and a beautiful new hotel! :)

If you are looking for a great "trendy" place to stay with a great atmosphere and lots of great bars and restaurants nearby, you have to stay at the ZA ZA. It's worth it!
