shipsealand Posted March 17, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 17, 2009 My DW and I did the Atlantis Submarine in Hawaii and enjoyed it. It was a long time ago and I did not recall how was the boat ride to the sub location so I have a question regarding the Caribbean ones. Has anyone done the Atlantis Submarine in Barbados and any recommendations? Also how is the ride to the location to board the sub?

It is a pretty short ride between 5-10 minutes. You are submerged for about 1 1/2 hours. Can't recall right now what the times are for the dives but they are located less than 5 minutes walk from where you dock so you can always stroll over and check it out
Aplmac Posted March 19, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 19, 2009 If you can, arrange to sit behind the pilot Here's the sub being towed out to the dive station.. The 10 min. boat-ride out to the sub on station is quite pleasant - the shuttle boat's about 35-40 ft. LOA. ;) .

You may notice it's a twin-hull vessel, so it's quite stable! .
shipsealand Posted March 22, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted March 22, 2009 Thanks for the replies on the boat ride to the sub and especially the picture of the boat and that it is a twin hull. My DW now feels better about taking out to get to the sub when we arrive in Barbados. We will be on the Caribbean Princess for the May 10 sailing. Aplmac Posted March 23, 2009 #7 Share Posted March 23, 2009 Thanks for the replies on the boat ride to the sub -and especially the picture of the boat and that it is a twin hull. My DW now feels better about taking out to get to the sub when we arrive in Barbados. We will be on the Caribbean Princess for the May 10 sailing. I've done it twice now, and it is an excellent way to spend a morning. Just the boat ride out and back in is quite a photo opportunity, especially if it's bright and sunny. You go right past your cruise-ship to get out to the dive sta. for starters.. Then you get shots of the sub, taken from the boat then you get to do the dive, in a bright modern,air-conditioned non-claustrophobic sub that's not AT ALL like those awful World War 2 movies rattling around in your head... You see so much stuff thru the ports, it takes your mind off your mind..:D You don't even realize when they close the hatches above you, and leave the surface Fish!! look at them!! -- ...><> ....><> ..><> ..><> ...><> ....><> ...><> ....><> ...><> Inside the sub, it's a bit like being in a twin engine turbo-prop inter-city aeroplane - except the seats don't face forward, they face out to the side. very cool. ;) Use you head and your charm to speak to the guys who load people from boat to sub, and arrange to be last 2 ppl to go down the hatch so you get those two first seats which are directly behind the driver! How d'you think I got this shot? ;) .
