From ship to Accra and back...tell me all

Tell me everything I need to know from getting to the beach from the ship and back and while I'm there....

Best way to get there? Bus? Taxi?

Special place to be dropped of?

Rentals: Chairs? Umbrellas?

Food? Drinks?

Safe for 4 women (40-70 years old)?

Thank you, I know there are a lot of threads about this, but I'm running out of time, need the condensed version. Thanks again:D

Best way to get there? Bus? Taxi? ===> Taxi for 4 girls.

Special place to be dropped off? ===> Ask for Rockley Beach

Rentals: Chairs? Umbrellas? ===> Yes, for sure.

Food? Drinks? ===> Right there. Definitely

Safe for 4 women (40-70 years old)? ===> Of course!

Accra is an easy one. That's why I send y'all there.

It also has the boardwalk that connects to Hastings Beach

so you get two for the price of one

-except there's no charge for either beach.

4 girls together should have a ball.

You might even try to bus it back

even though you'd have to walk the mile across Bridgetown to get to the Port

(ask locals for basic directions -point the way towards the Port)

We plan on going there next week on our Victory cruise. I would tell you how it went, but I see you are sailing as we get off. I was wondering about lockers. We definitely plan on walking the new boardwalk. Is there a place to stash our bag? or should we just plan on carrying it?

We were just there....I did not see any lockers. We left our bag on the chairs we rented and carried our camera and cash (with our seapass/ID) when we walked the boardwalk.

Here is my information from my review of the Explorer of the Seas 2-22-09

Barbados—I did a lot of research on cruise critic to decide on which beach to visit. We decided to go to Rockley Beach. It was $15 per person round trip via taxi. The cab driver dropped us off at the beach around 11AM and picked us up around 2PM. We rented 2 lounge chairs and an umbrella for $15. It was well worth the money. The ocean was a little rough but we enjoyed our time there. We walked the entire boardwalk. We were surprised with the hotels along the boardwalk area closed down and for sale. The beach area had a public restroom (not too bad inside) and 4 kiosks selling drinks and food. There were additional kiosks selling t-shirts and dresses. The vendors did not bother you on the beach.

We are very excited about our day in Barbados.

The guys are thinking about golfing, so the girls want to play it safe.

The girls will be 'safe as houses' on Accra Beach until the guys join them after Golf..trust me ;)

This is possibly THE most civilized beach on the island.

No West Coast touts over here pushing their stupid necklaces on you

We were just there(Thurs.March19th). It was a beautiful beach. Just like the pervious persons' pictures show.

We left the cruise terminal and stood in the taxi line up about 10 minutes. We shared a van with other people heading to the same beach. A little chaos at first (many cabs and vans and lots of people off the two ships that were in port that morning). Our van driver charged $5 per person. The drive was not long. The beach had a few bars to get drinks, there was food nearby and also some venders selling touristy stuff. Two chairs and an unbrella cost $15 and a boogy board to body surf could be rented for$5. Our driver was on time for our return to the ship and it was $5 each back.

I highly reccomend this beach.

Please note that the vendors selling touristy stuff mentioned above

(colorful shirts for the guys, beach wraps etc for the ladies)

do not come onto the beach to approach you.

They have their little kiosks right nearby, which they man constantly,

and wait for you to come to them...which many tourist ladies do,by the way

-because their line of tropical clothing is very colorful and attractive!

Even my island-wife checks them out from time to time! ;)

You might just buy something, girls!! :)

Accra beach looks wonderful, however does anyone know if there is water skiing available from there?

If not, what beach would you recommend? Ideally we want somewhere that we can relax for the morning, go skiing, then have a good lunch before going back to the ship. The Boatyard doesn't look like our kind of thing as we would prefer somewhere more laid-back and quiet.

Thanks (sorry to hi-jack the thread!)

Holetown is the water-skiing capital of the West Coast.

The West Coast is the skiing capital of Barbados.

aplmac, I absolutely LOVE that quote: "leave nothing but footprints". That's the way I always try and leave each and every beach I visit. I even pick up cig butts and other trash when I see it on a beach.

Great words of wisdom, I might have to "borrow" it sometime.

Well, I must be living in a cave or something because I've never heard the quote before. Only one I know is: Life is a Beach........ LOL

I am going to google this one. It's so true, especially in today's world.

Thanks!

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks for everyones information. We had a great time at Rockley, only stayed about 2 hours, didn't want the fair skinned to burn. $10 pp/RT. $5 chair/pp and $5 umbrella, rented 2 umbrellas. Very helpful people at the beach, felt very safe. Loved it and can't wait to go back:D
