Convienent Rome hotel

Recommended Posts

Most hotels will arrange private transfers for you ... but it will usually be more expensive than arranging your own. You pay for the service.

While not completely true, you can roughly split rome into three tourist areas: Vatican, Ancient, Renascence. You can walk to all three from any centrally located hotel (Piazza Navarro area would be good for this), it can be a bit of a hike.

If you give us some idea of what you want to see and your budget, you will get better suggestions.

:)We stayed at the Hotel Alimandi on Via Vaticano across the street from the entrnce to the Vatican Museums...When we stayed there they offr'd free pick up from the airport to their hotel but I dont know if they still do ..they have a website you can email them and ask..they are family owned and run and they do have another Hotel Alimandi on the street behind this one on Via Vaticano and I understand the rates at that one are a little cheaper..They offr'd free shuttle from the airport..a beautiful breakfast (included) and the room was magnificent

Just over two years ago, we spent four nights at the Smeraldo Hotel, near Campo di' Fiori (and Pantheon/Piazza Navona). Great location, small but clean rooms, recommended by Rick Steves guidebooks, near the Largo Argentina transportation hub, and no more than a 15-minute walk from many sights, and simply wonderful for a nightly stroll through Old Rome.

IMO, staying near the Vatican is fine for your day visiting there, but too far from most of the other sights.

The hotel will arrange a cab to and from the airport, so I assume easily would do the same for the port.

We will return to the Smeraldo for five nights after our cruise this June.

I recommend staying in the Pantheon area which is very convenient for walking to all the sites with the exception of the Vatican. You could walk to the Vatican but it would be a pretty good hike. I've stayed at both the Albergo Sole al Pantheon & the Albergo Santa Chiara & was very pleased with both. Some other hotels in the area are the Albergo Del Senato, The Pantheon Hotel, & Hotel Grand Minerve. I suggest you check them out on Trip Advisor & see if they might be what you are looking for.

Just returned from Rome and can highly recommend (if you plan to stay in the Vatican area) Hotel Santa Anna. It is located on Borgo Pio, very close to the Vatican. The have an excellent staff, very helpful, beautiful rooms and a very hearty breakfast buffet. I was very pleased with my 2 night stay.

I agree with Abosi that it sort of depends on what sights most interest you.

If you want to be as close as possible to the ancient city, I recommend the Hotel Pace Elvezia, on Via IV Novembre. It is walking distance to just about everything. You'd take a bus to Vatican City and the Borghese Gardens, but can walk to just about everything else. Some walks are longer than others, and buses are plentiful and convenient. (just wear a money belt under your clothes and watch any bags or purses that you may be carrying)

Perhaps you may wish to express the type of accomodation or budget. We stayed at the Fellini Inn - quaint, on the 4th and 5th floor of a building with a ground floor lobby, breakfast included for $150/n (2 people) and two blocks from the Trevi Fountain. There are many such "finds" on laterooms dot com. We wanted something close to sights for a budget. We loved walking the area between the Plaza, Spanish steps and Trevi in the evening. My husband loved the area even though he typically hates big cities. Would do it again!
