Is it normal not to receive cabins until you check in?

Thanks for the advice, the wife and I will get there first thing and fight the crowds I guess.

 

I just don't understand why they call it a "guarantee" if there are no guarantees. ;)

 

Maybe nothing will be left and I will get the owner's suite!?!? ;)

 

Oh well, one can dream...

 

Think of it in terms of Airlines and overbooking, you have a ticket but you get there and find they are overbooked and you get bumped. Like I say though it does not happen very often.

 

did you book through a TA and they just have not told you yet or did you book online? I assume you have your booking number, have you checked that online at NCL? I would keep checking it often

We have had both GTY reservations as well as "cabin-specific" cabins, and have never had an issue. In one case, on a RCCL cruise, we were upgraded from a D1 Balcony to a JS (yeah, SWEET!), and in the other case, we booked a RCL D1 GTY, and ended up getting a mid-ship D1 GTY ... exactly what we wanted.

 

We understand what others are saying ... it could be a craps shoot, never a 100% known quantity, and so forth, but in our limited experience (6 cruises overall, 2 as GTY's), it has worked out well.

 

Just our 2 cents.

Can you imagine flying from the U.S. to Europe to find that your ship doesn't have a cabin for you?

oh my god no, my referance to this does happen on occassion, was not getting a cabin assignment until arriving at the pier, I was not saying, someone would not have a cabin. Except for the one example that was referred to earlier in this thread I have never heard of anyone not having a cabin and as I mentioned there was more to the story but I don't remember the details right now..

 

We used to cruise all the time (special program) where we got our cabin assignment upon arrival.

You're better off using the cruise line's own site. I have seen more than one instance of an Internet agency's descriptions being inaccurate because they neglected to change something when the cruise line did, and that even extends to more important things than precise room descriptions, like itineraries and departure times.

SirDomino is on our cruise, leaving Sunday. I checked and this cruise doesn't even come up on NCL's site. That's a full ship :eek:

 

 

I believe NCL pulls the cruise from it's site two or three days prior to departure. It does not mean the cruise is full.

--A guarantee is exactly what it says, you are guaranteed at the least the category you booked, no lower but you could go higher. I booked an outside guarantee and was moved up to a BA (balcony). Yes, I would get there early if not on line Im sure your cabin has been assigned according to NCL records. Have fun

The cruise line must submit their manifest to TSA/Homeland Security 72 hours prior to departure so that it can be run through the terrorism database. Therefore they close the ship for bookings.

Please come back to this thread when you are assigned a room or when you get back from your trip. I would like to know what category you booked and what you actual recieved as well as if you didnt get a cabin assignment until you boarded the ship. Good Luck!

 

Looks like I was just assigned a room. I booked an Inside "L" GTY and got a "C" Oceanview. I guess that isn't so bad. :)

If I was on this Sunday without a cabin allocation if nothing was showing a few days ago on my reservation. I would be onto NCL/TA.

Not so bad?? Sounds great to me! Often the upgrade is only a level or two....sounds like you did VERY well!!! Congratulations and all that worry for nada! ;)

I have never booked a gty on NCL before but this time we tried it but got assigned a cabin right away and it was one we didn't want - way front over the theater so I called and upgraded myself to a better location. Does NCL ever change your gty after you have been assigned? I didn't dare to wait and find out.

I was told by the Travel Specialist at NCL that once the room has been assigned it is pretty much set in stone. The only way to get it changed is to pay for an upgrade. If the ship is full you are stuck and your only other option is to not board the ship. At least that is what I was told.

 

I appreciate all the support, I do feel much better about it. I was more worried about not getting on the ship, and now I got a great room. So me going from an inside L to an Oceanview C, how many level upgrade is that?

What floor are you on?

 

I just looked. L's are on deck 4. C's are on 6 so that's at least 2 floors up. Both the L's and C's are forward, though L is wayyyyyy forward.

 

Just looked again. C's are under the restaurants.

SO is it a bad thing to be under the restaurants or casino? Will it be super loud?

 

Or is it better to be on a lower level ?

Last year we were on the floor under the casino doorway and I did hear the chingchinging of the one arm bandit once and awhile when I was laying in bed. I believe the machine must have been right inside the doorway of the casino. So I could imagine how bad it must be to be right under the casino. Also, what about the smoking in the casino? Would the smell rise to the cabins above?? hmmmm
