Fawn524 Posted March 29, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 29, 2009 I'm considering trying a cruise this year on CCL. We have always done DCL, but now that my girls are going to be 19 and 20, I'm thinking they may enjoy some more grown-up fun on vacation. And I have heard some good things about CCL stepping up their game in the past couple years. I have NO idea what the various ships are all about....which are newer, which are bigger, which have younger crowds, etc. I'm looking for a Carribean cruise most likely, out of any of the East Coast ports. We are in PA, but have no problem going out of Florida. Thanks for any advice you can offer a newbie!

You will have a great time if you flew in at least 1 or 2 days before your cruise. azkcruizers Posted March 29, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 29, 2009 I've been on several different cruiselines over the years, but not on Carnival in over 10 years. My kids like to check out all of the ships on line and were dying to go on the Carnival Dream which is in the process of being built now..........It will sail later this year, I forget maybe Sep or Nov:confused: Anyways my kids liked the look of the ship and the stuff on it so we ended up booking it for February 2010. It will sail out of Port Canaveral and alternate eastern and western itineraries. Check it out! Other than that I am no help on their other ships! New always excites me:D Karen
Wennfred Posted March 29, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 29, 2009 Valor and Freedom are pretty big at 110,000 gross tons. Valor came into service in Dec 04 but you wouldn't know it. Freedom started in 2007. Both are awesome fun ships. Freedom Valor Valor info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnival_Valor Freedom info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnival_Freedom I have sailed on both and thats one reason why I would select these 2 ships. sam1148 Posted March 29, 2009 #6 Share Posted March 29, 2009 Go with the larger class..Conquest, Valor, Freedom..etc. These are the "Conquest" ships and almost identical in lay out. They would seem to have more things for young adults and probably more passengers their own ages. The Freedom sails from Fort Lauderdale and is a newer "conquest" class ship. You could also look at ships of the same class that have been recently refurbished. They've finished putting in big screen "movie" style theaters on those. And I think they've updated all the room TV to flats screens. The Freedom, Splendor (West Coast) and the soon to be launched "Dream" are the newest larger ships. You've come to a good place...Do your research. Also. You might not have noticed. (and people here will always say 'use the search function)..but until you sign up and get a screen name the search function doesn't show up. Now, you're a CC member you should be able to search threads on ships.
