How do you get On board credit?

We are new to cruising. I've read in other posts that it is easy to get on board credit OBC-How?

Here are the main ways....If you book onboard one sailing you usually get onboard credit on the nect cruise you book. If you book through a TA that has group amenities to include onboard credit that is another. Or as a shareholder you would get them as well. Family and friends can also purchase them for you or you can do this in advance if you wish to have some "money" waiting on your onboard account.

Like others said above, we booked an additional cruise when we were on board the Zuiderdam in Alaska in 2007. That gave us shipboard credit on the Panama 4-19-09 cruise we (you) are going on. It's not a lot but every little bit helps.

If none of the above apply . . . go down to "the desk" and throw a "temper tantrum" . . . you "might" get something :D

PS: of course, one has to be careful . . . you just might get thrown off, also . . .

When the first part of our upcoming Baltic cruise was chartered out we were offered a generous OBC to rebook the second half of our original cruise and add on a second 16 days at the end. We accepted. We also have OBCs from our TA for this cruise.

OBC is normally through the TA, so going to the front desk won't help. Although, recently Celebrity has been giving them directly for many cruises, either $100-$300.00 depending on the cruise length and stateroom category.

We actually ended up with $950 onboard credit on our last cruise. $100 each for using Future Cruise Credits, $300 from Amex Plat, $250 stockholder benefit, $200 gift from Travel Agent. Since we prefer soda to alcohol - it was actually difficult to use up all those credits. Internet and Spa finally took care of it, and we checked out with a bil for $35.

I realize not all of these benefits are available to everyone - but a credit for using FCCs is always there, and many travel agents will provide a credit of some kind.

We got some OBC for attending a joint HAL-TA Alaska promotional show, so I don't know if the OBC came from HAL or the TA. Then we got more for charging the cruise on the TA-affinity Visa card.

We've gotten OBC twice in five cruises. Once was through a HAL-TA show for Alaska, the other was booking a future cruise while onboard a HAL ship.

One thing in common with both instances, we hesitated a couple of days before booking, and somehow the price got slightly lower and the OBC a bit higher.

We got $150 worth of on board credit from HAL (but booked through a travel agent) for our Alaska cruise this summer. The funny thing was that we started out with $50, then rebooked at a lower fare and noticed on the next statement that we suddenly had $150 worth of credit instead. Nice surprise! :) According to the TA, this was all HAL's doing.
