Probably a stupid question......

If someone wanted to go on a cruise, and was single, paid the fare, would they end up having to share that cabin with a stranger? I think I would be fairly uncomfortable having to do that!

No, as I understand it you can pay a single fare which is pretty much double....or they may have a service where they match you with a roommate....If you look on the boards, there is a board for solo and single travels....there are some lines that don't charge double...do your research....As a recent widow, I may be investigating this myself.

Normally, for Inside Cabins the single person pays 160% of the double occupancy fare pp. For higher categories, it is 200%. Princess discontinued matching to provide a cabin partner. You may find one on your own but it has its risks and disadvantages.

Princess used to offer this 'single share program', but it was discontinued a couple of years ago. Cruising single now, you would pay the single supplement rate, and have the stateroom to yourself. The rate will sometimes depend on the sailing and the type of stateroom you book, but it can run as high as 200% (what a typical stateroom would cost for two passengers).

The best thing to do from a financial standpoint, IMO, is to find a friend you're comfortable with and invite them to join you. Otherwise, book as cheaply as you can and enjoy the space all to yourself.

I think others have successfully answered the question.

But, the only stupid question is the one you don't ask:)

As far as inexpensive cabins, Carnival has some Category 1A's that are bunk bed inside cabins. They are generally very inexpensive. The upper bunk folds into the wall (or ceiling) so it would be like having a small single cabin.

Happy Cruising,

Charlie

Be prepared tp pay 200% for the cabin. I have sailed solo a few times and priced cabins on Princess, Carnival and RCCL for my upcoming cruise. Except for Carnivals 1A cabin the others charged a single supplement of close to if not 200%. Cruiseing solo is fun and if you can afford it go. There is nothing like being able to do what you want when you want!
