kmcqueen Posted April 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2009 Long time lurker here. We'll be going on our 5th HAL cruise this summer on the Maasdam, and I was just wondering if anyone could indicate if this ship is similar to any of the other current ships in the fleet? I know it is older (I believe 1993), but is it based on the same design as any of the other HAL ships? Or...maybe it is similar to the old Nieuw Amsterdam (our first cruise ever back in 1994 was on the Nieuw Amsterdam after which I swore I would never cruise again - and now this will be our 16th cruise!). leoandhugh Posted April 6, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2009 It is one of the 4 "S" class ships. Statendam, Maasdam, Veendam and Ryndam. The only noticeable differences are in the decor. All 4 are having extra cabins added aft and the aft pool is being removed to make way for the new cabins. Veendam is presently in drydock having those changes made
Krazy Kruizers Posted April 6, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2009 We sailed on the old Nieuw Amsterdam. The Maasdam is nothing like her in layout.
