We also sailed on the March 29 sailing of the Solstice and from the first moment we saw her in port we were in awe. She is a simply stunning ship. We arrived at 11:20 and were onboard by 11:30. Check-in was great, no more filling out those papers in the waiting room, as long as you had your X-press boarding pass everything went smoothly.

We boarded to the usual champagne or mimosa cocktails and then proceeded to investigating the ship. We were not in the least disappointed in her at all, at every turn there was another surprise.

 

We were aqua class and our room was not much different from others with the exception of our veranda chairs had foot rests. The perks were the welcome bottle of champagne and the canapes every day, the bottled water and the herbal tea delivered fresh every day. the champagne was only one time.

 

The spa was fantastic and relaxing and the persian garden was a pleasure to be enjoyed.

 

We had the pleasure of eating in Blu but switched to the MDR, not because the food was not good but it was just not our type of food. The service and the fact that there was only about 100 people at any one time was nice but again the food was not quite to our taste. The MDR was beautiful and the food was fantastic, there were some people who said that there tables had problems but our waiter and helper were excellent and we had absolutely no complaints. We went to the Maitre'd and requested the switch and he could not have been more helpful in accomadating our request, including asking if we wanted to dine alone or with others, we chose a table of 6 and were right on the railing on the second floor, excellent.

 

The tuscan dining room was beyond expectations, the food the service and the wines were beyond belief along with the fact that our table was near the back of the ship overlooking the wake of the ship which they lit up and gave a spectacular dining experience. Did not get to eat in the other specialty restaurants due to lack of time , but heard only good things from those who did.

 

As far as the pool and chair hogs goes there was more than enough chairs to be found and as long as you did not need to sit on top of the pool you were not disappointed. Water in pools was refreshing and not cold, but in the solarium it was air conditioned and although the water was heated it was cold coming out into the air conditioning.

 

The martini bar was fantastic and seemed to be the meeting place before dinner every night, the drinks were fantastic and the show the bartenders put on was well worth watching. We made sure we got there every night and enjoyed martinis with our new friends before dinner.

 

The shows were great but the best was the Solstice show put on the last Formal night, we were able to take a backstage tour and spoke to the performers, they told us that most of them were broadway trained performers and had to go to special training to be able to perform the Cirque Du Soleil type acts we saw. They more than exceeded our expectations.

 

The OceanView Cafe was a pleasure to eat in, the new style is great, no more lines of people with trays sliding them along a metal railing, instead they had individual stations with plenty of room and two sizes of plates to choose from. Not once did we have a problem finding a table to sit at and we were there at different times of the day. Above each station is a sign telling you what was being served there, Choice of foods was excellent and plentiful.

 

All in all I highly recommend this ship, the only drawback was the duration of the cruise, 7 days is just not enough time to enjoy this beautiful lady.
