sassenach.girl Posted April 8, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2009 Hi folks, New to cruising and currently planning our first cruise to Alaska for DH's 40th in August 2010, along with our girls who will be 5 and 3.5 years old then. I have a question re: the HAL staterooms. In particular, the Westerdam VB rooms. On the Westerdam deck plans, I note some VB staterooms are quad (e.g. the little square icon on rooms VB6031, 32, & 35), indicating they have 1 sofa bed and 1 upper. Though I cannot see this configuration on the stateroom plans so I'm not sure how this will look? Can anyone confirm the configuration? Where is the upper located? Does 'upper' mean a pullman? I gather the sofabed is in the sitting room? Does the sitting room in the VB staterooms have a curtain? Can we still have a double/queen in the bedroom? OR, is there a better stateroom on the Westerdam for a family of four that would prefer the kids sectioned off (either by curtain, or wall)? Thanks in advance Kylie
dmlee1990 Posted April 8, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 8, 2009 Hi! We just returned from the Westerdam on Sunday. We are a family of 4, but stayed in an outside cabin. There was a queen bed that can be separated by curtains. The upper berth (pullman) was right over the sofabed. The person sleeping on the sofabed needs to be careful when getting out of bed. If the person is tall, she/he may hit their head on the upper berth. You will love the Westerdam. She is a beautiful ship. The staff and crew are wonderful. Rare geoherb Posted April 8, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 8, 2009 At your girls' ages, they may be able to share the sofabed instead of having one of them in the upper berth.
