Keeping in touch on Solstice

We have sailed Royal Caribbean for the last 2 years and found it great to be able to hire the DECT phones so that we could keep in touch with our children during the day if they wanted to explore the ship. Do Celebrity hire out DECT phones? Will our mobile phones work so that we could text instead? We are not keen on the idea of walkie talkies. We will be on Equinox but presume it will be the same as Solstice. Thanks

I have never heard of these phones on any X ship. I would imagine that text messaging is very expensive on ships. I am guessing roaming fees apply--assuming texting works at sea.

Text messaging on the ship, depending on your carrier is very pricey. Actually we have verizon and were told it would be the same as an international call which for us would be $2.49 per text charged to sender and receiver. We're not planning to use our phones at all while cruising.

We used texting and it didn't cost a lot - kept it under control. As stated above, $0.50 to send n $0.05 to receive. Tried walkie-talkie and found them an issue for all around us, and even for us. Text worked all the time on Infinity and Mercury.
