smeyer418 Posted April 9, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2009 What is the best way to get from the Intrepid Museum to Lady Liberty? fastest way is by taxi should cost about $20.00 per cab(up to four people). Cheapest way is bus to subway....currently $2.00 per person(free transfer from Bus to subway-if you use an Metrocard)... 42nd street bus to seventh avenue/broadway. Take the 1 train to south ferry upstairs are the booths to buy a ticket to the SOL. You can prereserve tickets for that ferry on the US Department of Parks SOL website. If you just want to take an outside picture, you can take the SI Ferry for free and it passes close by.... http://www.nps.gov/stli/
cm19881@hotmail.com Posted April 10, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 10, 2009 If you plan on actually going to the island, I would buy tickets online ahead of time. This way you can cut right to the front of the line. If you don't do this, you could be standing in a line up to 2 hours to get on the ferry, especially if it is a nice day. 2Cruise4Ever Posted April 26, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted April 26, 2009 Thanks for your responses. Question: it looks like the last ferry leaves from NYC at 1:00 (at least that's the latest time listed to purchase tix). We plan to arrive at NYC by 10:00 a.m., check in, drop luggage, cab over to Intrepid and have lunch there. But, it looks like we won't have enough time to spend there and high-tail it over to Battery Park in time. Should we reverse it? Go to Liberty first (11:00 am is available), have lunch there and then go back to Intrepid late afternoon? What time does the last ferry leave Liberty? I can't find it on the web site. Thanks! 138east Posted April 26, 2009 #5 Share Posted April 26, 2009 I think you should go to the SOL first. http://www.statuecruises.com/ Given your tight schedule, a reservation would be required. If you actually arrive at 10 am, then it may be really difficult to check into your hotel (assuming a midtown hotel) and get to South Ferry before 12 noon. Are you coming in a day early to do this or are you doing this post cruise? It appears that the Intrepid is open until 6 pm, so you should be able to go out to the SOL, look around and come back and still have time for an hour plus at Intrepid. 2Cruise4Ever Posted April 26, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted April 26, 2009 We're arriving the day before the cruise. And, we're staying at the Holiday Inn Mid-Town on W57th street (our favorite hotel in NYC). We arrived about 10:30 last year and were able to check in. Our room wasn't ready yet, but they held our luggage for us until we get back. I'm thinking now we should plan to arrive by 9:00 to be able to get the ferry. The website doesn't indicate when ferries leave to go back to Battery Park. Anyone know?
138east Posted April 26, 2009 #7 Share Posted April 26, 2009 The schedule is on the web site under Plan Your Trip. http://www.statuecruises.com/ferry-service/schedule-options.aspx It gives estimates of how much time to allow depending on what you want to do and see at the statue. Budget Queen Posted April 29, 2009 #9 Share Posted April 29, 2009 One point people have to factor in with Statue Cruises is TIME. IF you want to get into the base of the Statue of Liberty, a significant reason to go there in my opinion, you need to add at least an hour in a security line, and have an Access Pass, gotten online. ADD to that the security line to just get on the boat to there. IF you want to go there, don't count on also getting into the Intrepid. Allow 1/2 a day for Liberty.
