Question about Shore Excursions-Wind Surf Nb Barbados

We are going on our first cruise with Windstar later this year. We will be on Nov. 22 sailing of Wind Surf (Northbound from Barbados). We read earlier somewhere that we can rent snorkeling equipment from the ship for free. We also saw the shore excursion information from last year, and noticed that not all of the ports of call have snorkeling excursions.

Is it the case that people who want to snorkel just go somewhere on our own and just do it? Or the fact that some ports of call have no "organized" snorkeling excursion is because those islands are not good for snorkeling?

Thanks.

Yes, the rent you free snorkel gear onboard the ship. You cannot snorkel from the back of the ship. You may swim and take the banana boat rides off the back of the ship when in calm ports. Normally the Marina is open at least 3 or 4 days out of 7 depending on seas. Ours was open in St. Martin, St. Barths, Isle de Saintes, Nevis.

The snorkel gear is for you to go on shore and snorkel near a reef. They will direct you to the best ones.

Have fun,

We sailed that route in January and you can indeed get free snorkeling gear from the ship. They had a several hour window during the first day at sea where you could go pick up gear, and you could also get gear any time the sports platform was open. We took one snorkeling excursion and otherwise just took our gear to the beach and snorkeled on our own. They do a port talk each evening and often offered tips on where to go snorkel from shore then, or in the port handouts/maps available each day. I think we snorkeled on our own at St. Lucia, St. Barths, and Iles de Saintes, and probably could have done it at other ports but we didn't want every stop to be a beach stop!
