Tipping

I have read alot people bringing coolers on board and the room steward always keeps it full of ice because of the "Pre" tip. How much do you tip your room steward before during and after the cruise?

Also how about the Matride?

I always tip bartenders at least $1 per drink

Waiter at formal dinner?

Waiter at dinner?

Just curious what the "Going rate" is so I dont low ball tip anyone.

An automatic 15% is added to all drinks as a tip, so an extra $1 Im betting makes they really remember you.

Just be aware coolers cannot be larger than 12" X 12". Most people put a collaspible cooler in their suitcase. I have seen folks who tip an $10 or even $20 to keep a cooler full of ice, seems a lot to me, but Im not a big drinker. If its a collaspible cooler, you might have to leave it in the bathroom as many of them leak.

The waiter and asst waiter and cabin steward's tips will be included in the $10 a day they will automatically add to your account per person. If you get service from the matire d', then you can tip him separate, like if you ask to have your table changed.

Once we find our favorite bartender, we tip accordingly...:)

The people 'running' drinks are already getting 15%, so there is no sense tipping them extra, unless they are 'special'... And we have found one or two!:p

I normally give the Room Steward a $20. or so when we arrive, and let him/her know we appreciate a little extra.. Works wonders..:D

You won't low ball anyone if you leave autotips on and then give something for extra for exceptional service. You don't have to pre-tip anyone. If you ask for your cooler to be filled, they will gladly do it. If it's been done great for the first few days, hand him/her a $10 in the hall and say I really appreciate having that cooler filled and then give more your last night.

Maître d' - did he or she do something special for you? Then tip what you felt that service was worth.

We usually buy Coke's during the show and not every night so the Coke card doesn't "pay" for us. We tip an extra $1 since 15% on a coke isn't much. That way the waiter/waitress doesn't pass us up the next time because he/she is trying to make more money off those purchasing alcoholic beverages.

If the service of the room steward, and the dining room staff is above average then we give them extra at the end of the cruise (over and above what they charge to our sail and sign card). This last cruise I had such fun....wish I could have done this with more people and larger bills...I had seen a girl all cruise cleaning bathrooms and the casino and decided to tip her. The look on her face and the gratitude in her thanks made me feel great even though the casino got the better of us!

As far as the Maitre'd is concerned. If we see much of him, and/or he does something for us then we tip him accordingly. Sometimes while my husband is tipping The M'd I'll slip a tip to his assistant whom we usually see at breakfast, lunch and dinner when in the dining room.
